Good Morning All!

It has been a while since I have posted a Bykfixr story. I have been putting his lights on here to sell, and I truly appreciate the positive responses. I posted the other day about a Coast Rechargable Flashlight, and am planning on posting some more Coast lights today, but as I was looking at them, a story came to mind and I would like to share. A few years back, when Mike first became interested in flashlights, he gave me a Coast flashlight to keep on my bedside table. He said "It will blind an intruder and then it's heavy enough to bang them on the head and that would give you a chance to get away." This was the very first flashlight he gave me, so to me, it was really special. I held that light in my hand and fell in love with it. Well, a few days later, Mike came to me and said that he wanted that light back. Absolutely no way was I giving that back to him. He kept bringing up other flashlights, saying "This one is not so heavy" or "this one shines brighter", "this one will be better for you". I wouldn't trade that light for any reason. He also bought me lights with dog paws and one for Valentines Day, all in an effort to get me to give him that flashlight back. Now, you guys don't know me that well, but when my mind is made up, that's it, no turning back and my mind was made up. He tried to trade different flashlights for about 2 years, finally accepting the fact that I was NOT going to give that light up. That flashlight is still on my bedside table in case I need to blind an intruder or whack them over the head. That light is there, keeping me safe, along with a Valentines light and a dog paw light. I still would not give that light up for any amount of money, or any other flashlights.

Thanks for letting me share.

That was how he was, lolol.
Just in case some may have missed the whole point here ;-(, I believe his objective was not to get that specific light back, but rather to provide you with what he considered would be a better light for your use. In my experience, Byk was not about putting his own interests first, but rather the best interest of others. This is one of the things that set him apart, and why we're talking about him. Some may not understand that;-)

Ha this is a great story and my wife has no idea the collectable lights she has flopping around in her purse however like yourself she has grown to appreciate them. Several years past when Fenix discontinued the E01 5mm I realized she had one on her keychain of her Audi. She does not drive this car often however when she did she quickly noticed I had swapped the Fenix for a Lumintop EDC01.

Her response to me was "hey did you take my little light". Of course I played dumb and said "what light". She noticed right away and I tried to convince her it was a better light yet she wanted the old Fenix back. I wanted to stash it away with my others however relented and she still uses that Fenix. By this time she had became used to the soft glow of the 5mm and the runtime as well.

To my surprise she also said it was more sentimental as she remembered when I gave it to her and also how I explained it was a better version of the ARC AAA. She is well aware of my love for ARC and for me to give up such a light to her she remembered it well. That was probably around 2008 when we were first dating and yes it has survived everything a woman's purse can throw at it.

Mrs Bykfixr it is amazing how much of your story with Mike mirrors many of our stories as well. All of us here can only hope to leave behind a legacy as strong as Mike has given us. It appears that his legacy continues to move us all and even with the grief you have had to endure just know his influence is still very much alive here and many other places as well. I very much believe Mike would be very happy to know that you have continued to share his memories with all of his CPF family here.

Thank you for sharing your story. Us ladies may not look too much like it’s a big deal, but we appreciate very much when our husbands give us flashlights from their collection. For any other guys out there, learn from this lesson, make sure if you give us ladies a light, that you are prepared to say goodbye to it forever. Lol😀
