Anybody Available for Modding U2?

I have a-
Digital U2 Ser# A21132 Luxeon V LED (?) (Hexagon shaped) 17mm ID Tube

I love the light but might be interested in modding it, primarily higher output at higher settings while keeping the lowest setting where it is or even a smidge dimmer. Distinct hot spot with generous spill, similar to what it has now. Fairly white light (4-5000k) but rather be a little warmer rather than blue if there are options. Would like to hone to 18mm ID for 18650 if practical but not mandatory.

Am I smoking dope or is something like this doable? If doable, who is doing it? Contact info would be much appreciated. Post or DM should be fine as I'll try to check in hoping for replies.

Have you removed the head and tried to insert an 18650 battery (not protected)?

My early U2 allowed that.

I’ve had a 17650 in mine for years, finally discharged but can’t find the charger. Just ordered 16650s & a charger. Frankly I’m afraid to screw up the light having no idea how it’s assembled. I did twist the head, it goes a few degrees each way & stops, that’s as far as I dared go.

Hope all is well with the modding community! One of our dear members for whom I've done two Blackhawk Gladius mods asked me if I was up to the challenge to mess with a U2. I said sure!

Pouring over the threads from the OG U2 modder @Nitroz and trying EVERYTHING (including slightly heating the head with a propane torch with a leaky seal and almost blowing myself up) I finally got the head open with the rubber jaws in my vise and a strap wrench and cranking so hard I almost blew a blood vessel.

Now, I'm pretty sure it's the later 6V version but I'd like confirmation...

Is Nitroz on this site? (sorry, started typing before searching dawned on me)

Kestrel, thanks for that link. After digesting all of that, I'm out. The emitter swap and modification to accept 18650 cells aren't as simple as I imagined.
