Unfortunately, since 2016, Mazda has gone upscale in a big way.
Basically, rather than follow the formula of creating a separate luxury brand; they're trying to be that brand. It's not actually working. But they have put in a massive effort. Perfect example being Garden City Mazda. Old dealership was small, but plenty of space outdoors for inventory. Everything clean. You walk in and it reflected the Typical Lower-Middle class buyers that the brand successfully catered to for decades.
Until literally a handful of years ago. They closed the old showroom, and opened up a new, HUGE, luxury showroom literally next door. All new employees! Got rid of everyone. You walk in, and it looks like some Ultra Luxury large boutique store for Hermes or Balenciaga. And, if you are Working Class or Middle Class. The place silently screams "Not for you." "Why are you here? Okay, we'll fix up your car since technically it's one of ours. You can wait in the waiting area. But we would really prefer it if you come back later and just pay the bill."
I was lied to the one and only time I was there to fix a stupid, minor, recall issue. Found out from the receptionist filling in that day that the service manager lied to me about not having any loaner cars. I was supposed to get one temporarily for free since it was a blatant issue on Mazda's part. Nope! Went there for 12 years, used to deal with Mike. Mike was honest. Mike got fired along with everyone else. I miss the free coffee. Took my Mazda to a dealership literally a couple of blocks from my 3rd shift job. Same interior nonsense. But didn't feel like it wasn't a place for "my kind."
