id settle for 1000000 lol. btw I switch teams often lol my first cpu was a cyrix but I. then went and then intel and back and forth. this apple rig im on now scores like 3500 on Geekbench single core not many Intels can do that using the same watts

Trust me, you don't have to worry about the electrostatic scare crap, just put a towel down and take out the screws.
Anyway, don't know your whole system,, said I'd bet $20 new RAM and a system tune-up would do it,, I still feel that way.

Paying someone to install RAM and some software??
My take, put that cash into a new $500 laptop w/ current Windows,, like the Lenovo I mentioned

also: AMD processors are far more energy efficient than Intel,, sorry Intel fans

OK, thanks. I'll take a deep breathe on this one, an make a dicision. I still have a couple of months (if I go that route) to make a purchase. Good advise on using the service cost, to a new computer.

I like computers. I haven't been feeling the urge to put money into my computer for a while.

I'm running a 3950x with 64 gigs of ddr4, 2x gtx 1070's.

I did buy a 9950x on prime day, so at some point I'm going to need to buy a motherboard and some ddr5.

After that, I'll have to figure out what modern day GPU is faster than 2x 1070's.

What's faster? just about any newer gpu will beat those in SLI mode. SLI is basically a dead technology now. RXT 50xx series will smoke those and keep up with your CPU. Get a good MB (x670/x870 chipset) that has both CPU and RAM overclocking (some of their boards don't support both). Even if you don't OC it allows you to 'over build' your pc and won't stress anything. Plus you'll know that in the future you'll be able to keep up longer before having to re-up.

I've went with the latest intel (in spite of intel's recent stupidity). They've finally made a cpu that runs cool and is fast/efficient. Apple is still edging out the competition. But I'm not using that.

Yeah, it was on sale for $434, $460 after tax. I'm a little scared that it won't be a lot faster than my 3950, but it should be something like 50% faster. Not sure if it's worth the price tag.

It does open me up to ddr5 and faster storage.

The modern MBs with the new CPUs and latest ram and GPUs all work together really really well. They come together to be about 2.5x faster than the last gen rigs. Not even using the fastest of the fastest new rigs. Just get the bits that use the latest tech. The sticker shock is a bit much. But you can piece it all together bit by bit.
Just get a MB that will allow you to put the best of the best on it even if you don't actually do so. The latest tech when paired together is really astonishing.

I went with Intel this go a round. And just got the lowest rung of the pieces that use the latest tech. I wanted to be able to upgrade if I wanted and see for myself if it was actually worth the hype.
I'm very glad I did. No issues here. More than powerful/fast enough for the latest games. I use it for editing my music recordings (just home hacking) and it does much better than the glorified laptop I was using that was only about 4 or 5 years old.

You've got the CPU that's going to demand the bits to keep up with it. So, you'll have to buckle up and just go for it. LOL

Yeah, I feel like I've been spending too much on motherboards the last few times.

I got a Phantom Gaming whatever for over $300 and it has some gimicky cooling stuff with noisy fans.

It is expensive. But that's what I'm using and it isn't even blinking. I'm glad I jumped on it.
CPU= Core Ultra 9 285k 3.7/5.7ghz, 32g G.Skill 6400 cas 32 XMP 3.0, 5070Ti on an ASUS MB , 1500w power supply. Arctic AIO cooling. 4Tb x2 SSDs (one was repurposed from last PC) generic case.

I bought an Alienware 18x gaming laptop from them back before Dell bought and ruined them.
It was a display model that at some point got a battery recall. So they took it off the counter and into the back to wait for the replacement batt.
The labor turnover rate at fry's is pretty high and at some point the laptop just got tucked away and forgotten about.

A year later, in walks me looking for deals. I see the 18x sitting on the display counter for less than $500 !!!!!
I much around with it and it seems like a nice rig for that price. I ask the sales rep what was going on with it? He told me the story about he battery and it sitting on a shelf in the back with a service/hold tag and it wasn't until the latest inventory that they found it. Because it was over a year old they just wanted to cut their losses and sell on the cheap.

Long story longer, I snagged it and had it for over 10 years. Gave it to my niece after upgrading what could be upgraded (it was still good but was getting old) and then bought the cheapo craptop that I just got rid of.

fry's was on my weekend route. Goodwill, fry's, In-n-out, Guitar Center then home to play with whatever I found. LOL
