Notice how no stoner ever says that weed has benefits, here's what they are.
They do, I've heard many, helps lower blood pressure, helps body regulate blood sugar, cholesterol, helps with anxiety, even helps broken bones heal faster, as well as many others, it is not even stoners who say it, numerous researches, and it is most likely true to some extent, but like with any meds, overdoing it kills the benefit. kids today smoke all day long, fry their brains, but otoh it is good for those kids who are not smoking, in 20 years or so, they will have much more employment opportunities, and will be a lot more desirable candidates for companies to hire,I predict there will be so few young kids who did not fry their brain, they will be in high demand.

As far as I'm aware, I was one of the few kids, when presented the 1 vs 5 people railroad switch conundrum, asked if I could switch places with either the conductor or the 1 guy tied up, knowing that most people would be willing to make the hard choice if pressed. If they couldn't, if I were the conductor, I asked if it's just me on the train, then I'd de-rail it. Weird quiet kid with a chip mentality I guess.

There's always more options...they're not exhausted until you are.

Point being, why does everyone ALWAYS start out with comparing it to how not quite as bad as alcohol weed happens to be. The issue I have is that it's universal. Ask someone about weed, it's always THAT that they choose to mention. That's rather telling.

Let me clarify, I see nothing wrong with an individual enjoying some in the comfort of their home after a hard day's work. It should be legalized and regulated to eliminate the criminal element. And, if certain individuals have anger-control issues, they should be encouraged to smoke. That's just my outlook.

The only option is to pull...somebody tell every wife!
Best option is one I've found applies to most things in Life.... Do nothing.
You didn't tie those folks to the tracks. Do nothing, whatever happens isn't your fault. You pull that lever, you're knowing taking an active part in at least someone's death. You do nothing, the outcome has nothing to do with you. In real life, this situation would never happen. So it's a bit of a moot point. Usually, you can save one person from being run over by a car, or stand there and do nothing. Makes the decision to act a lot easier when it is a realistic scenario.

My answer to a question like that is poor engineering is the only reason you would ever have to make that choice. I've heard similar discussions with regard to self-driving cars. What if you're in a situation where you can crash the car into a tree and only kill the driver, or run through a crosswalk full of pedestrians? My answer is never to have the car be going so fast that you can't stop in time in such a situation. AI cars will most likely not exceed 10 or 15 mph in areas with lots of pedestrians for exactly that reason. Frankly human drivers shouldn't, either. I even limit my speeds while riding if there are lots of pedestrians. Too much unpredictability to ride faster.

The issue with trains is they can't exactly steer...if moving at a velocity where collision is impending, beyond the preset paths, the only other path is to derail the train...hopefully it's empty, and you'll suffer traction after hopping out.

I would just stay in the train if it derailed. Train derailments are very survivable, especially if you're in the back of the train.

Also the fact trains can't steer or stop quickly is exactly why we use complete grade separation if they travel at high speeds, and have gated crossings if they don't. We engineer out the probability of something being on the tracks, although stupid drivers still insist on driving around crossing gates.
