Honestly, I literally can't tell which of the two on the left is that shade of blue. My gut is telling me the middle one.

I can tell in that photo more easily than in the room where I took it, but you're seeing how dark it really is. Doesn't really pop unless it's brightly lit. Here's one in indirect sunlight and direct sun.
That really makes a difference. It's more like gunmetal blue.

I wish more maglites were offered in the midnight blue color. I bought a 3D, but now I'm wishing I had bought two. Bought my gf a 3C in the regular blue (LED model) for when she walks the dogs at night, and the color doesn't compare in my eyes. She loves it though so, it's a win in my book.
In Spring of 2024 they had AA minimag, AAA minimag, Solitaire, 2D and 3D in their modern midnight blue. All incan though. But if I recall correct there was once a darker version.
The one I hope to see return is the Crimson red LX's. At the time they were available I hadn't been bitten by the LX bug yet.

I received another maglite in the mail. A 3D green model. Not jade or lime, just the current dark green.
This weekend I'm going to attempt to take a photo of all my maglites together as I haven't done that yet.

hard to tell from here. There are 'aftermarket replacements' being made and are often the ones you'll come across.

I recently received three more in the mail, and have two more coming. First three are brand new. A 3D, 5D, and a 6D. All in black, factory fitted with xenon lamps. The 3D was bought with the specific intent of actually being used, and not a part of my collection.
I found two more, used. One of them is another 4D, also appears to be xenon bi-pin fitted, with a logo for a hospital in Wisconsin. Probably an employee gift, or possibly a piece of equipment given to maintenance workers. Or, even as part of a blackout kit potentially. It does not appear to have seen any real use, judging by photos taken by the seller. I bought this one specifically to actually use, and it was cheaper than a new 4D from maglite.
The second auction-site find is.... more dubious. It's a 2 D cell, and very clearly is meant to look like a vari-beam. The listing referred to it as 'rare' and 'vintage', which are just simply not true, as the serial has a letter prefix, the body is the wrong shade of blue, and most damning, the bezel does not say 'vari-beam' anywhere on it. I'm choosing to give the seller the benefit of the doubt, as nowhere does the listing claim it to be a vari-beam, and this ebay seller probably isn't a flashlight nerd
I bought it anyway. It was dirt cheap, and I (until now) did not have a 2 D model in my collection. I might consider modding this one since it's a piece-meal light. Maybe. Idk.
That's not all I scored, though. I grabbed two large lots of NOS PR lamps.
One lot of approx. 50 lamps, 30 of which are for 3 cell lights, 10 more for 2 cell lights, and another 10 for 5 cell lights. Ray-o-vac branded.
The other lot is 110 lamps, all of which are NOS maglite brand. For some strange reason, this lot has a particularly large amount of 4-cell lamps. About 56 lamps, if my math is right. Very few 3 cell lamps, unfortunately. The only 4 cell I had was my vari-beam, but I'm not willing to actually use that one outside of the house, lest it got lost or damaged. Hence the hospital branded 4 cell headed my way.
There are a few 7 cell bulbs in that lot, too. I do not have a 7 cell, so I'll have to fix that.

I hope you actually get this. That seller's on my avoid list. The guy started offering me groups of Mag parts over the summer. Every time I agreed to buy a group he'd vanish and then come back a month later, saying he'd changed his mind but he had some different parts he'd sell me. I'd agreed to buy that bulb lot in October before he pulled that stunt again.

My score of NOS replacement lamps came in. Hopefully the photos are hi-res enough to allow zooming in on packages. I did snap a couple closeups on ones I thought were interesting. Most packages were dated 92/93 or 97. Very few 3 cell lamps, but I found a lot of rayovac lamps that'll work out for that. Even a few 7 cell lamps! If I ever get lucky enough to have one.

Ikr? I think it's safe to say that between this lot, and the bunch of ray-o-vacs coming in, I'll have enough to last me the rest of my life. Except maybe for a solitaire. Although I don't use it a whole lot. More for finding the key hole in the front door than anything.

Well this sucks....
I've been keeping my eyes open for a dark blue maglite, not the midnight blue. Finally caught one, and got it in today. I get it out of the packaging and I can immediately tell there's something in there that shouldn't be. Tailcap off and.... batteries. Swollen, corroded batteries. :mad:
Evidently nobody bothered to look any further than a peek in the box. They had six of these.
Taking it to work with me tomorrow as I have more stuff there to work with to get them out. I'm kind of pre-accepting that this one might be done for and will just be parts. So I guess I'm gonna look for another. From what I've read, it seems this fate usually trashes the body beyond salvage.
I already disassembled it as much as I could, and tried beating the batteries out as is. Didn't budge even a little. Then I tried boiling it for 30 minutes, and beat on it some more. Still no dice. I guess my next bet is to try destroying the batteries enough that I can get 'em to cave in on themselves.
