It sort of looks like it would be, but I don't see any similar radio/case among the usual asian brands.

Could be fun if the price is low enough, otherwise a used/old stock Grundig G6 is the same thing with SSB..

I do like having SSB, but then I hardly ever use it. Aviation band would be something new to me. And planes often come right over the house making their approach to RDU. It's small size is a definite plus. But, the main factor will be price.

New use for an 18650 cell - a portable radio!

A new LW/MW/SW/FM portable radio, the Tecsun PL-880 - marketed by Kaito-USA and available via AMAZON or evil-bay, is powered by a supplied internal 18650. The cell is recharged via a USB port or USB plug equipped AC wallwart. Hopefully, it's a protected cell. I just thought this was an odd use of one of the favorite LED flashlight cells.

And you can see the 18650 radio being unboxed here, along with comparisons to the former flagship PL-660; early tinkering reveals that it may actually have a synchronous detector function hidden within all the buttons, leave it to Tecsun to take a feature that would be a major selling point and turn it into a secret Easter egg..

As I understand it, tune to a powerhouse AM station above around 1300kz. Check if that station interferes with other less powerful stations near its frequency.
