Me too. Handy little radio. I confess I haven't done a lot of serious radio listening in the last year, but I've found my Sangean to be an indispensible radio to listen to the live broadcasts of my favourite CFL team while attending games.

Shout-out to my Degen DE797 when I want something a little smaller and don't mind giving up FM stereo plus the weather bands.

The most weird thing about this radio is that it was in production very shortly. For some reason it was phased out a year later after its release. The charcoal version of it skyrocketed in price twice until now.

And yes, it is not small and marginally portable — 3.75 lb (1.7 kg).
 
Excuse my ignorance, (I'm VERY ignorant! ;)), is Digital Audio Broadcasts available here in the U.S.? Looks interesting.

Yes, you can get HD radios that have digital broadcasts of some stations and they piggyback another channel/broadcast if your radio can receive it. I have an HD radio in my car (Kenwood) and HD radio is IMO worth a little extra if you have a choice.

There's only one HD radio station in Dunsmuir; Southern Oregon University's public radio affiliate. Love that HD audio quality, but as for using a physical tuner it'll come down to how much you want news and alternative music. Or you can listen to it online now.

About 75% of our FM stations here are HD locally most having a second channel, one has 2 extra channels but with a smart phone and internet provider that gives you free music streaming plus the extra cost of HD radio and almost no availability of radios and receivers besides car stereos I don't see HD radio to take over the market when it comes to popular music genres. I mostly listen to FM talk radio in my car and stream via bluetooth my music collection. The extra cost of HD radio for cars is not that much if you do listen to radio in the car but if you bluetooth from a smart phone and are in a good cell zone area for uninterrupted internet HD radio isn't needed. When I was driving on a highway my internet service would be weaker in some areas and probably interrupt streaming that is where HD radio would be good.
IMO always have multiple forms of entertainment and information in case one is unavailable due to either location or disaster.
 
Here in Lithuania I guess there is no DAB broadcasting. And I may understand why. If I understand properly almost always it will be lossy audio compression that affects final audio signal quality on the receiving end. Good FM signal delivers noticeably better quality.

Thanks for that SH. I already had iHeart Radio which I listen to some of my talk shows but I'll have to explore Tune In Radio more. As you know, where I live, AM radio is almost non existent and FM is very limited. Thank goodness for the internet!

I still listen to CD's in my car and also have one of those doohickeys that plugs into my cigarette lighter that contains a 32GB micro card with a bunch of my music downloaded on it and it transmits the music through my FM radio. Works good up here as the FM band is so uncrowded.

I have an FM tranmitter that cost about $30 using 2AAAs that was unimpressive suffering from humming and hissing and mediocre sound quality. It was blown away by my a cheap $3 bluetooth receiver and a smart phone playing MP3s.
I've done the music CDs and MP3 CDs and for their time and my budget they were great but with digital memory chips/cards and smart phones and bluetooth players etc upgrading was well worth it all. I still have a sony MP3 CD portable with wired remote, 2 ipod videos a 30G and 60G and don't use any of them now my smart phone with a 200GB memory card can hold all my music and about 100 movies HD quality on it.
 
Huh, now I know why Pure Avalon N5 has been phased out. It cannot function with a battery pack. It charges the pack and, once fully charged, loses it... i.e. no battery indication any more, no power up on the battery :(

Idiots...
 
Hello ! Its been awhile but good to see this thread is still going. I have some videos of my Ham radio gear. Finally got on HF with a yaeau ft-817 and made a radio go bag. https://youtu.be/WYhkf9b_aLU

Bose is closing all their brick-and-mortar store locations this year, so if you want to see/hear a Wave radio or one of their Bluetooth speakers in person, do so soon..
 
I have discovered how to "activate" battery use in Pure Avalon N5: if it has "lost" the battery, connect the power cord, switch the radio on, disconnect the power cord. Now it is powered from the battery...
