What's the most prudent strategy?

-buy eb2 and e2dl then swap the heads & sell (who would want an eb2 with defender head)?
-put L1 delrin tailcap ring on eb2, assuming it fits (same dia.)?
-eb2 + z68 last resort (has solid shroud).

It's not listed under switches, but is there even a part no. for the scalloped shroud on the e2d's?

edit- will this eb2 head fit on a classic e2d defender?

You can use the EB1 or EB2 head on any other E-series lights, including the classic E2D Defender.

The tailcap on the L1 has a larger diameter so any accessories for it probably would not work.

Older style tailcaps, such as the Z68 won't work on the newer EB series bodies.

I think my best strategy is to wait for that a la cart on the accessories page, if it will be the kx2c replacement single mode or otherwise. Sounds like you are describing the head on the new M600/620 Ultra weapon lights (KE2C??) which has the same styling as the new Outdoorsman lights and the E2DL Ultra (minus the crenelations). I would suspect (but don't know for sure) SureFire will wait a little while before rolling these out as an accessory item to encourage sales of the complete Scout light kits.

I think I've got something for it though. Spyrish do you remember, what was the part designation on the head? I believe it was plain with just the caution hot stuff. I couldn't tell the difference between the two heads.

All credit for this one goes to spyrish for starting this thread. Once I saw it, I did a Google search and found a retailer who was posting on several boards (including the marketplace) that they had three of these in stock. I don't know how or why they seem to be the only ones who had these right now but it worked out pretty well! Right now I've got my fingers crossed hoping to get a tactical version to review as well.

I don't know any particulars about the new Fury but I suspect that it's coming soon, barring any delays. I know I'm looking forward to it.

I may be interested in this light if it can run on 18650s. I'm new to the boring/customizing stuff... Does anyone foresee a problem running this light on 4.2v lithium ion cells? I wouldn't want to go to all that trouble to have it bored just to burn it up or have it run poorly.

This post by run4jc might give you a hint if 18650 would work. He tried it on the E2DL Ultra with a 17670 but I am figuring it should perform the same.

remember that's only if the body is thick enough to be bored to 18.xx millimeters. it may not be thick enough to maintain rigidity if you do 18.xx mm, but a 17mm bore should be easy to make work I'd bet money on

Unfortunately I don't have an EB1 with the 2-stage switch. However, I do hope to have an EB2 with one sometime soon

The head from the clicky version of the EB2 operates just like the head from the E2DL Ultra. It will work on an LX2/A2L/AZ2 body and will pretty much give two levels of output like you would expect. The only problem I have observed is that cycling the switch quickly (between off and full press) can get things out of sorts a little bit giving you low output even when you have the switch fully depressed. The truth is I could probably carry the light like that and never experience a problem since I don't usually try to "strobe" a light but I can't say that it works perfectly.

The head from the tactical version of the EB2 shouldn't have that problem.

Sure. The beam is pretty much exactly like the E2DL Ultra other than it actually has slightly broader spill due to the shallower lip on the bezel. It's pretty awesome.

At 30 yards the hotspot still almost wipes out the "target." Color rendition is pretty good IMO

This photo gives some indication of the quantity of spill from the light. Distance to the wooden swing is about 50 yards.

Hey 880arm,

is the LED in EB2 the exact same s the e2d Ultra? I ask because I am somewhat dissapointed by how dim the EB2s 5 lumens is.
I have an original 2 mode e2dl which supposedly has a 5lumen low but compared to the Eb2 it seems like its fifteen...
I was kinda hoping the EB2s low would be closer to the e2dls.

Maybe the E2dL Ultras low is a bit higher than the Eb2s?

Oh also forgot to as will an EB1 tail shrouded cap work on a tactical EB2 head?

Friend of mine has the EB2 clicky. We tested the light with my EB1-T's twisty switch. Works great. EB2 beam is a bit (but not that much) wider than the EB1. Still throws like crazy. This light is ridiculous!
