I have an old surefire l4 and looking for a head upgrade Looking to bring this back to a more modern output. Looking for any tips. Or first hand knowledge.

Thanks.

Are you running it completely stock at the moment? That’s about 100/120 lumens on 2x cr123a batteries.

A Malkoff Devices E2/Scout head would give a decent boost in output at 450 lumens. I have one of these on an E2 body, it’s really well made and built to last. These are showing out of stock at the moment, but if you get in touch with them they’ll look after you.

Lumens Factory make a KL4 style head if you want to keep it looking original. One mode, 3.7v-9.0v, HA3 natural (greenish gray anodized), cool white LED if you want max output.
I don’t own one of these. They are rated at 1100 lumens, but are probably more like 500 to 800 lumens based on my Surefire M6 LED upgrade I bought from them.

It is bone stock and looking for a bit more. My other plan was to pickup a e2d decision decisions.

If yours has the old 5W luxeon, I believe it can be swapped with an XHP50 for a significant lumens boost.

How was the fit and the finish on the lumens factory stuff. Would like to have it appear close to original but looking for a nice beam and around 500 lumens. I would love to keep the 2 modes and have a low around 10

I’ve been satisfied with the quality of my Lumens Factory products. I have a natural anodized 6P bezel/head from them and it has more of a matte finish than the Surefire anodizing. So it probably won’t be a perfect color match to your L4 body if that’s important to you.
The KL4 style head is also available in a 3 mode version.

Malkoff has a new programmable head (the MDC XPL EZP head) that can be set to either Low-High or High-Low. On 2x cr123 batteries low=18 lumens and high=900 lumens. It’s not cheap at $149.99 but all their stuff is built to last.

L to R: Lumens Factory Z44 (6P) head on Oveready body, stock Surefire E1e, Surefire E2E with Malkoff E2/Scout head and Z68 tailcap, Surefire E2D 500/600 lumen model (not sure which as I bought it 2nd hand).

Just wondering how long lumens factory items take to come. The order shows shipping from Hong Kong with no update since the 26th

I find them a bit slow to ship. 2-3 weeks to the UK. Always gets here eventually. Tracking number didn’t show anything for about a week.
