Help Support Candle Power:

Hi Dave,

I would like a warm tint that throws.
Which led do you recommend?

Thanks

Hi

I think I would stick with the XP-G. I shim these so that the throw is pretty tight BUT I can use a XPE which is a narrower viewing angle.

Here is how I would figure, I have a warm white 3000k Q5 XPG, but if you go up to 4000k then I have a R4.

Now with a XPE, I have a Q2 for a warm white and the neutral is Q3 is the neutral.

Now that said, the XPE will be a tighter beam but the XPG will be quite a bit brighter if you go with the 4000k.

Let me know which you would prefer as I can build you any of them.

Dave

Hi Dave,

Do you think you can fit an XR-E R2 EZ900 on this tower?

I have 2 of these I can send to you to practice. They are mounted on 20mm stars, so you would have to take them off.

Im curious how much these can be made to throw with these new smaller XR-E R2's.

Thank you,
bigC

It can be done and has been done. The trick is trimming the corners of the ceramic substrate to fit within ~9mm diam circle (an SF TH reflector opening is approx 9.5mm diam), while leaving enough of the XR-E solder pads to be able to solder the hookup wires securely. You also need to provide clearance to feed the hookup wires. I've done this on a different mod.

Feasible: E1e tower module XP-g, R4 5B,
Hi & low modes (or 3 lo/med/hi),
to run on one CR123 or RCR123??
Please advise. :naughty:
Regards,
Chuck

A real XPG throw monster!
Thanks,

Hi Greg

That is great. That was a double board and was a bit tricky getting it to work but it all worked out.

I am glad you like it, they do have great throw.

thanks for the business and have a great weekend.

Hey Dave

Are these regulated or DD? (single lvl 4-14V)

Also, any possibility for potting for added ruggedness?

Does the XP-E R3 throw better than the XP-G R5?

No XPG that I know of can be ran direct drive past about 4.2 volts and certainly has to be regulated at 14 volts as the VF is about 3.4 volts or so.

Yes it can be potted, the potting once applied to these is pretty much permanent.

I am not one to much give advice on throw as it is quite subjective:D I will say the R3 has a tighter viewing angle at 115 compared to 125 degrees for the XPG but the R5 will be about 30 lumens stronger lumen wise.

They are both shimmed to the same height so the R3 will be a bit tighter but the R5 a bit brighter.
