Also has someone done a lux reading for the E2/Scout head? I have an E2DLU on order as a replacement for the cancelled LX2TU and the dual output head probably won't work for weapon mounting (do to the mode switching with recoil). I'm leaning toward getting this head for a weapon-mounted option.

Gene said in the MDC thread that the LED assembly isn't removable from the head, so I seriously doubt this one will be either.

I can measure it in about an hour. The E2DL2 impressed me fully with its performance.

I really hope Surefire updates the single output KX2C to become an Ultra.

I put this together with an 18350 and one of my WC heads, courtesy of Martin and the "MD1" conversion!

And since it's technically still a 3.7V Li-Ion, both modes work, lol....

Awesome little pocket light...

And I got my high/low rings installed in the heads of my M91A, and my M61NSHO, WOW, all I need now are three more MD3 bodies, or maybe two MD3 bodies and another MD4,

I have one more high/low ring left destined for a M61 219 HO, can't wait to compare them, I could see the M91A being used during the day and the M61NSHO being used at night, the low modes are beautiful and so worth having. IMHO,

Oh and I got my first Mag drop in, I installed a 3-6D XP-G2 into an old old D mag, had to get the adapter sleeve also, Tell you what, for running on alkaline batteries a 3D Mag with this drop in is great, no worries, just hand it to someone and off they go... I am using an old KD MOP reflector also that had the removable cam, Lol.. I knew those old removable cam reflectors would come in handy sometime.

Alright. It's time to see how much lux the E2/Scout head provides. I can test it with both CR123s, since that's what I'll be using, and RCR123s. I don't think the voltage difference between these cell setups will provide much of a performance difference. I don't have any fully charged RCRs, so I just put a couple onto the PILA and began to top them off.

The measurement will be taken with my Extech EasyView 30 meter at a distance of 1 meter. The head will be attached to a Surefire E2L Outdoorsman body, with standard E-Series tailcap. For entertainment purposes, I will also measure an XP-G2 M61 engine driven by two CR123s, since that's the Malkoff engine most likely to be used in the same manner.....weapon-mounted. The M61 engine will be in a VME head on the same body/tailcap assembly.

E2/Scout head w/ 2X CR123 - 3.44 Klux
E2/Scout head w/ 2X RCR123 - 4.07 Klux
XP-G2 M61 w/ 2X CR123 - 3.22 Klux
XP-G2 M61 w/ 2X RCR123 - 5.01 Klux

Can anybody suggest the best way to prevent the 123A cells from rattling in my Hound Dog's MD3 body?

*Sorry for the large text. My post is bound to get lost in this messy disaster of a thread and I wanted people to see it before that happens :)

Someone suggests that the 1/2 in poly drip tubing that used for drip irrigation system sold at HD works perfectly:

Keep in mind the walls of your tube need to be around 1mm, as the battery is around 16mm and the tube around 18mm.

thanks! How far out can you realistically hit a target with that lux? Compared to the E2DLU it doesn't seem that intense.

Just sold a KX2C head I'd been running on my scout light and immediately ordered a Malkoff E2. Looking forward to the additional flood since the KX2C doesn't seem to light up the peripheral area as much as it probably should. Not to mention I can put it on my E2DL on occasion!

It is more of a close to mid range solution. The general rule I follow is that 2 lux is needed for definite target identification. About a month ago, I took some measurements at 100 yards with a Hound Dog, M60, M61 SHO, LX2 and a Nailbender XM-L2 engine. I just grabbed the note pad into which I wrote the results.

The LX2 did 1.01 lux, the M60 did .72 lux, and the M61 SHO did .65 lux. The LX2 did 1.01. The XM-L2 NB did 1.22 lux. The Cool Hound Dog did 2.70, and the Neutral one did 2.44.

When I was measuring the E2DLU at 1 meter (it did 18,360 lux) , I grabbed the Neutral Hound Dog which did a little north of 21,000. I suspect the E2DLU will be usable out to 125 or so yards. The park where I took my measurements has enough space for measurements out to about 150 yards.

If the weather is nice this weekend, I plan to enlist the help of a friend to see at what distance the Cool Hound Dog, the E2DLU, and a yet to be delivered NB XP-G2 OP reflectored unit provide 2 lux. Naturally, results will be posted here.

I also don't consider the E2DL/KX2C head to be a very good weapon-mounted solution, due to the lack of spill. For distances out to 50 yards or so, I think the E2 head will work very well indeed.

The slightly narrower reflector concentrates the light more than an M61, and provides very usable spill.
