Considering Joining the Navy...
Howdy fellas, its been a while! But I know I can always count on CPF for some pull-no punches advice. Is anyone here currently enlisted in the Navy? Or have you served any time in the Navy in the past? I'm looking for a real-world list of pros and cons... not just some recruiter-hype... -

Great review! Thanks for taking the time to do it. I have the 4xCree lantern, and I agree that I wish the "ultra-low" setting was a little lower... and the top 3 brightness settings are all so close that I don't think I'll ever use it on level 7 because IMHO the huge extra drain on the... -

HDR Imaging
Amazing shots John. When you do "batch processing" in Photomatix, do you use the same settings for every HDR image you create? If so, would you mind sharing/sending those Photomatix settings?? I'd love to play around with your "Blended HDR" technique, and try to create some natural HDR pics... -

Sorry I haven't replied with amazing HDR beamshots yet... the truth is, I haven't been able to replicate what my eye sees with a set of bracketed exposures. :( No matter how I try to process it, I still get an overexposed hotspot. Yeah, I haven't played too much with 3 bracketed images vs 5, etc... I just figured the more the better. :crackup: I'm so jealous about your camera though... One of these days I'll have a Full-Frame Canon DSLR!! Have you had any of the dreaded "black dots" that have plagued the 5DmkII's... -

Wow, those are some amazing images. I have to say Stillphoto's beach-scene is my favorite. And looks like we had the same idea Saaby! I took 5 AEB shots, and created an HDR pic of our Christmas Tree. I like how it "glows" and almost looks "magical". Some people definitely prefer the more... -

Well you have to use software to merge the multiple exposures into one image... when using the software you could conceivably use the same settings for each beamshot, but what looks realisitic for one flashlight's beamshot might not look realistic for another flashlight. The only thing with HDR beamshots is, you'd be processing them (using software such as Photoshop or Photomatix) so that the final HDR image looks like what your eyes saw when you were...- KingSmono
