I'm really surprised that some folks find an extra 1/8" larger in diameter and 1/5" longer too much for a capacity improvement from 3600mAh to 5000mAh, which is about an extra 39% in runtime!

I'd be happy to buy 1 and 2 cell 21700 bodies.

I rarely deplete an 18650 in one go. If I think I may need more, I have 18650 sized storage capsules, not to mention other 18650 sized lights. Given my use case, I don't think that the quest for run time should result in larger and larger batteries. I'd prefer to see more efficient emitters and improved battery chemistry.

I think the 21700 body would add some more grip to the light as well, given its larger size.

There's merit in your opinion. I just thought a more efficient LED emitter and/or driver won't arrive anytime soon and/or at a commercially approachable price.

DaveD- It's not size I don't find palatable. (I routinely carry and use a Surefire M6 during the fall/winter) It's the investing in a whole new ecosystem of cells and batteries. Maybe an adapter or something like the two piece E series bodies that take 18650 cells? (Pioneered by Tranquillitybase if I recall, the TBSB bodies.) So the existing heads can thread onto an adapter, and the adapter thread into the new body? Best of both worlds, existing heads work with new bodies, etc. What do you think?

This is my thinking as well. I'm not sure I'd want my MD2 bigger but my bigger bodies? I think that work just fine. I don't EDC my MD4 an as you say runtime would go WAY up.

It sounds like it would be the approximate size of a "C" sized M@g light. 2 x 21700 M91 anyone?

Pretty much an upgraded MD4 for the M91. Yeah!

Sounds fine to me!

Aren't cells and batteries the same things though?

OMG yes! I absolutely love the form factor of my 2-C mags. And your talking about 10,000 mah capacity as opposed to 7,000. That's quite a bit from something just a little bigger then what we got now.

Oh, HD Super definitely benefits from it.

@bykfixer: As @sclut24 said, a 21700 body, an adapter, and current heads. Lego is awesome.

That would be awesome!
I'm on edge of buying from Malkoff. This 21700 version may very well push me over.

The bigger lights would benefit from the 21700 cells. I would LOVE a 21700 Hound Dog.

I agree. A 2x21700 HD would have the same runtime as the 3x18650 HD I have now.

Would be interesting to see 1x21700 Malkoff M61 and such.

You would lose compatibility with Surefire C tailcaps but who cares anyway.

You would also lose the ability to run 4x123 cells in a 2x18650 light, but again, who cares. I have never ran primaries in my "Super". The last time I ran primaries in a Malkoff 9P was 4 years ago and it ran a M61LLL.

Observing the market trends, 21700 *is* the future.

^^ A big YES.. Single 5000mah or 2x 21700 10,000mah.. Runtimes and grip diameter size is perfect!

I literally have everything I need x 3. Don't need more of the same. If Malkoff made something new and interesting, like a 2x21700 body for the Hound Dogs and 1x21700, I would buy these.

Almost one year ago I made a prototype body for 2x 21700 cells fitting my Hound Dog XM-L and posted it in the old Junkie Tread:

Did not have the time unfortunately to proceed with a better looking one, but it is still on my ToDo list.

Cool. I remember that post. I didn't pay that much attention at the time but now find this relevant as 21700 is becoming more and more mainstream.

For those that really want runtime, i think a 21700 body for all MD lights would be a good idea.

We seem to be stuck at 3500mah on 18650, 5000mah 21700 would be nice and 21700 might have potential to have higher capacity with minimal increase in body dia.

Separate md2, md3,md4 21700 bodies or a modular body would be nice, i think.
