The tint graphed linked earlier in the other HDS thread was just from one sample per LED. There will be variation even in the tightest 3-step bin, so it's not guaranteed that a 303 would be any better than 273. Here's a recent measurement from three 219b SW40 CRI9080. Lower than expected CCT because of steeper than usual measuring angle, but should be comparable.

Guess I vote 2700k for that true rum out of a skull campfire feeling.

Maukka I LOVE your images.
Looks like the CRI is slightly better on the sm303 (2985k) than on the sm273 (2814k)

Damn these Hogo group buys. I'm tempted to go a 2700K if they end up in his store.

How many are we up to now?

I think we are at 9 or 10, without definitively figuring out if it is going to be 2700 or 3000k.

So I'm thinking... maybe both! Crap. That would mean I would have to have one of each. I'm killing me here.
Might be able to convince Henry to do a both in one run, so like 12 of the 2700 and 12 of the 3000. This will have to be after the second run of High Noon lights ship in December, so there is plenty of time to consider this as long as the leds remain available.

I would love to know how this would compare tint-wise with my Malkoff M91w dropin. I don't use it much, but it's great when I do... :)
what is the color temperature of your Malkoff? (I think it is 3700k)

these are all N219c LEDs from Clemence:

you can simulate the 3000k LED with a 3000k incandescent lamp. Then shine your Malkoff on the wall at the same time and you will see how much cooler color temp your malkoff is.

If you like incandescent, I imagine you will like 3000k, since thats an incandescent color temperature.

I know nothing about availability or quantity, Im not affiliated. Maybe contact Clemence to find out.. if he expects to have stock next year..

I would really like an incandescent simulated HDS Rotary. I really hope these get made.

Thanks for that picture! I wasn't sure but clearly I like the 4000k better than the 3000k. 4000k has the "beige" tint I keep going on about. 3000k too orange for me. Trouble is I've seen 4000k XPL look totally yellow so it must vary with manufacturers

glad the pics are helping
I agree 4000k XPL can be very yellow. That is why I don't recommend it to you..

even 3000k High CRI XPL is terribly yellow, I don't care for it.. here is an example
36277921954_e01a0ea490_b.jpg

LEDs vary quite a lot, I had two XPG, one was much more yellow, so I had it modded, for the 3rd time..
I just had two Maratacs modded to 219c sm303, again one is more yellow. The one pictured above is my favorite, because it is pink. I Love Pink more than Yellow.

details about yellowness are less of an issue in actual use with just one light source, but otoh, side by side, differences can be very obvious

Im testing three sm303 in a triple, plus two separate sm305 (all are 3000k N219c from Clemence)...

as far as the question of sm303 vs sm273, now that I have been playing with the sm303 I am becoming more curious about the 2700.. just because it is warmer. Im slightly disappointed that some of my 3000k 219c are not as pink as I like, and are slightly yellow. I don't have a good photo of that detail yet.. am having a hard time capturing what I see.. still playing with my phone camera..

don't sweat the petty things, have a flashtastic weekend!

I don't think there'll be a lot of pink to be found in these LEDs, need the 9080's and particularly the sw45k for that goodness.
I specifically only ordered sm273 and 303 for my LED swap because I knew I wouldn't be able to help putting in a 9080 if I had some coming and the whole point was to go super warm. That said I'm 80% leaning towards the sm273 for maximum warmth.
The LEDs I have coming have some slight differences apart from colour temp, the 303 are L1, lower forward voltge, and the 273 (L2) are D220 (vs D200), slightly higher flux.
I'd rather the lower Vf but maximum warmth is the goal here.

Ok, here are my best efforts at realistic color temperature comparisons (hard to capture what I see, but these are close..):
first pair on left are triple led lights, the middle N219b is slightly more pink in real life:
36294061684_66c4dba9ed_h.jpg

in the next photo are single LED lights (the 219b below is correctly showing less pink than the above example):
36958960802_12ea8dc828_h.jpg

next below, a photo that turned out really really well, very close to what I see with my eyes, single Leds using a Fenix E01 (notoriously blue)
36941025976_dd7197bf48_h.jpg

the goal of this post is to give a reasonable impression of the sm303 3000k 219c
I hope it helps people visualize the relative color differences between the temperatures..

I'm 80% leaning towards the sm273 for maximum warmth.

I look forward to your impressions of the sm273, I was reluctant to try the D220 sm273 fearing it will be greener and or yellower than the D200 sm303

I also got a couple of sm305 and one if them IS slightly more pink than the other.. all relative of course
good luck with your tint lottery :)

enjoy your FlashyWeekend!

note on photo technique
Im using an iPhone 5, nothing special, it has auto white balance. That is why I include a cool white light in the pics.. it brings all the colors into correct range, like what I see. Try it!:)
oh, the white "walls" is just a piece of folded printer paper.. works great
show me more photos!:)
