It's only 1-mode (sorry), but for AAA, I prefer the Fenix E05 to others. To me, it's brightness level/beam are about perfect for a 1xAAA light. It lacks throw but...if I wanted throw, why am I using a 1xAAA light? The upside is very good spill/~5m illumination. It's very comfortable for hiking at night, navigating a house at night/etc.
Since its circuit is simple (1-mode), it's also very efficient, which I prefer given the low capacity of a AAA cell. The only thing I'd prefer would be *one* lower level for reading, etc.
If not this, I'd probably vote he AAA Revo. I prefer the beam pattern of the E05 though (more spill). I feel like the Revo is *worse* at near illumination, even on high. It also has lower efficiency, but...is better at distance illumination by far. That said; if I wanted much distance, why am I using a 1xAAA? Seems kinda silly. If I actually needed throw very often, it seems I could suck it up and carry an extra *50* grams or so for a 1xAA light at least.
For everyday carry/everyday situations - I prefer the E05 for it's nice spill/efficiency. The efficiency comes at the cost of multiple levels (darn, and throw (don't care), though.
