Hound Dog 18650 XT V2

The HD 18650 XT v2 is regulated to a point.
While there isn't a graph on the Malkoff website, there is a pretty good description of its runtime characteristics.
850 lumens at full burst which drops to 500 lumens by 1 hour followed by 45 minutes of "bright output" down to 100 lumens, followed by several hours of declining output.

So you can see the driver does its best to regulate and provide full output for about the first hour (on an 18650) then has a steady decline after that point.
I don't mind those characteristics, I'd much prefer that than any blinks or step downs.
Pretty good performance I'd say for an 18650 and the low VF of the LED helps it squeeze out the most of the declining battery after it's fallen out of regulation.

It's a beast of a light but obviously not regulated nearly as well as the two cell version as you would expect.

I'm not a big fan of the SST20 and would have preferred an Osram in there but I still really like mine.

Thanks you for this info.

Now, in regard to the two cell version that you mentioned. Would that be the Hound Dog XP-L?
-- You say it's better regulated because there is more juice with 2 cells as opposed to one so easier to maintain higher levels longer is that correct?

Also, between the Hound Dog 18650 XT v2 and the Hound Dog XP-L it seems like they're essentially the same head but one is capable of running on just 1 cell while the other needs multiple to run is that correct? -- sorry for my ignorance in this matter, thank you again.

Without expanding, basically yes, you're on the right track.

The XT and XP_L are two different heads. The XT is probably some kind of osram and has much more throw.
