Woah!!! Hold on a minute. We've got jtivat saying it's 33% closer and theepdinker saying 25% closer. Which way is it?

I'm rethinking it and I am lead to believe that theepdinker is right. If it's 3 actual feet and 4 what-you-see feet, doesn't it make sense that the 33% added to the 3 real feet would make the 4 what-you-see feet and that the 25% off of the 4 what-you-see feet would make the 3 real feet?

That's the best and most I'm going to think about it.

Maxa, the look-like is 3 feet, while the real is 4 feet. so I said it is 25 percent closer.... Never mind, lying down time re-extended to 5 hours...

How much CLOSER does an object appear underwater?
Answer 25%

How much FARTHER away is an object than it appears underwater? Answer 33%

Read both parts of the explaination.

jtivat,
I agree with you the DM exam is not a math test.
Just the same we must be able to do certain math equations.
We also must be familar with the agencies material.
That dosn't mean the question is right in your test.
Look at all of my answer, then compare it to your test question and answer.
It would not be the first time a test question was wrong & I don't let that kind of stuff slide.

Okay, I get it now. I was reading it backwards at first so that didn't help. It's actually quite simple, there's just so much confusion going on in this thread it makes things harder.

-the item is 33% farther away than what you see

-you see the item 25% closer than it really is
