For those of us who have not recently been paying close attention to all the different emitters and discussions, can someone point me to the secret decoder that gives an idea of runtime and output?

I'm not asking for a guaranteed output or runtime, but just something to help choose from the mind boggling number of choices.

Since it looks like 6 volt is a common input voltage, perhaps something like (just taking the one as an example):

Cree XRE - XPE -$30 - 3.6 - 6 volts 3 level regulated high(XXlm/Xhr*) / med(YYlm/Yhr*) / low(ZZlm/Zhr*)

* (2) x 123A configuration, estimated output and runtime

Thanks,

-john

Hi Nailbender,

I was wondering if you can help me out - I've got a Surefire A21 with an LU60 collar/adapter (to make a 3P wannabee ).

I'm planning to use a plain Z44 bezel and Z41 tailcap to complete it. My question is, which drop-in would you recommend for a 1 battery set-up (primaries, rechargeable, etc.) and using the LU60?

I'm asking because I read in another thread that Malkoff drop-ins don't fit using the LU60 adapter since the adapter has this plastic ring inside (that needs to be modded/cut if that drop-in would be used).

Would any of your drop-ins just 'drop-in' without any mods to the LU60?

Or does anyone else know the answer to this?

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I'll use the module in a Solarforce L2M with either a single 16340 or 18650.

Thanks,

Hi Dave,

I just got my two modules today. USPS tracking wasn't worth anything this time, it's still showing "electronic shipping info recieved". :D

Anyway I've only played with them inside as I'm still waiting for it to get dark, but from what I've seen so far I love them both, especially the XR-E with the 8 degree optic. I'm gonna mount it in my helmet light tonight an give it a try.
I just hope our drill tonight includes a smokey building :twothumbs.

Thanks a lot.

I'm not sure if I should order one of these dropins with potting or not.
Is potting basically for shock absorption for the use of a shotgun or rifle? Any other advantages? Is it more water proof?
My lights are used in law enforcement but only for duty belt carry.

Also are the Nailbender dropins lighter in weight than a Malkoff?

Thanks.

Potting is both for shock absorption and for thermal management. The thermal properties aren't all that useful in a P60 dropin but shock absorption is. Not just for recoil, but also when (not if ) you drop your light to protect the electronics.

My Nailbender dropins are lighter than my Malkoffs (NB SST-90 about 22 grams vs. M61 at 36 grams, keep in mind this is a kitchen weight so the measurements are only good for comparing between these two), but they are not potted. This is actually because I completely forgot to spec it when I ordered. :ohgeez: Malkoffs are brass 'slugs' and are completely potted (no choice for non-potted units) while Nailbender dropins either have an aluminium reflector or an aluminium optic holder, so I guess that accounts for it.

For duty use I would definitely order with the potting! It's an extra added 'peace of mind' if you happen to drop or ding the light.

Hi Glenn

I hate getting on the subject of throw as each person has such a variance but here goes.
I guess it depends on how bright it has to be besides thin beam.

Dave

Dave,

It's a fair point - I guess it wasn't really a fair question, so I went back and did my research (like I should have done in the first place!), and I'm guessing that all around I'm going to get just as much light in the hotspot with a dual-xpg linger special, but with added flood - so that's probably what I'll go for.

I appreciate your input - many thanks.

Glenn.

Hi Glenn

I was not trying to dodge the question but you would not believe the content of the PM's I get when my opinion is not what the member actually wanted. It doesn't take many like that to get a bit gun shy. :D

The Dual XPG is a good choice but do realize that it is mainly flood and will have a small amount of clutter in the center of the beam but is very bright as one would imagine with 2X XPG

thanks

Dave

Hi Mark

Thanks for the business.

I need to make sure of what you want exactly for tints and such.
R5 flux bins only come in cool white. So I need you to look and make sure what you want. Below are the bins I have today.
I would imagine the warm and neutrals are fine with you but wanted to make sure you knew only cool whites are R5.

Flux Bins and tints that are available for XPG
Q5 3000k 7D2 tint (Warm White )
R4 4000k 5B2 tint (neutral white
)
R4 5000k 3C tint (daylight white)
R5 6500k 1C
/ 1B / 1A tints (Cool White)

Also on the SST 50 for neutral white would you want 4500k or 5700k.

thanks just want to make sure you get what you are after.

Dave
