Went to the ER today for a weird heartbeat. I'm fine but my meds need adjusting. Anyway the lady checking vitals asked if I smoke. I said I vape. Good gosh, it was like I was saying I'm a child killing mass murder. "You know those things explode", "you know those things are 10 times worse than smoking"……I said "says who?" the other lady in the room quips "SCIENCE" all pissed off-like. I laughed and said "well I can breath better and I aint inhaling carbon monoxide anymore". She says "smoking is better for you, because it does not contain all those toxins". Mrs Fixer blurted out "oh Lord, she went there". lol. I said "wtf global warming is going to kill us in 8 years so who cares"……not that I believe that but I knew "science" lady was about to stick me with a needle to draw blood so I figured it be best to be on good terms before hand.
I started out the day feeling woozy so thinking perhaps my sugar was low I checked it and my meter said 313. Yikes. So google said call the doctor. I went to a dox in a box who said my sugar was fine but I may be having a heart attack go to an ER. So I did. The ER said I was suffering dehydration illness. Go home and drink water then go see your doctor to get your heart meds adjusted.
I have what my heart doctor called "an extra beat" and put me on a pill for it. It was back today. And when I went back to the heart doctor for a follow up back when he high fived me for choosing vaping over smoking. He said a lung doctor might not agree but for the heart vaping is way better than smoking. I'll try to see him asap and say "well I went back to smoking there for a while but now I'm nearly stopped but vaping again".
Lessons learned today: 1) Keep check on expiration dates of glucose checking strips. Mine were expired and new ones agreed with the dox in a box and the ER. 2) Some nurses think smoking is better than vaping. If she is about to draw blood don't argue with her/him. 3) Drink more liquids. I kinda thought it may have been dehydration (again) but it kept getting worse despite drinking liquids. I think it's an onset of insulin resistance that once plagued me because I urinate way more than I take in before noon time everyday. 4) When a doctor says you are on the verge of Type 2 but later says "nope, false alarm" keep checking anyway. At least at times.
So today was a big set back due to nerves but tomorrow is another day and my smoking total this week (before today) was less than half of what it had been. And I was vaping a lot less too.
Hope your OK mr fixer, at least your under a specialist.
That is worrying also, a doc who thinks smoking is better for you with 5000+ chemicals, over 3000 of which can cause cancer. Yet a vape has 5 ingredients or so, none related or cancer causing. I do wonder where they make this decision from, or even if they know whats in vape juice, like VG and PG, both found in many foods preservatives, cough medicine etc to. Although vape wise, your not actually eating it!..........well hopefully not lol. There might be some not so safe fluids out there, some dodgy cheap stuff. But making your own, you know what goes into them as your putting it in!.
I have fact and proof from my annual medicals that Vape is better than smoking. As i have lung capacity tests due to my work. As with age, everything starts to go backwards, hearing, and lung capacity along with many others. My lung capacity over the years has increased, instead of decreasing. Not magic by any means, but its allowed my lungs to recover. Yes maybe they would be better still if did not vape at all, i dont know. But i do know that vape is no where near as bad as smoking.
Anyway hope for a speedy fix mr fixer and the meds work out. Hope you and family are good, festive greetings to you all.
