Kinda sad that a LEO would use a cheap piece-o-crap as his weapon-light, on a quality AR. Just sayin'....

Well this may come as a shock to many of you....most LEOs are not "gun guys" or "flashlightophiles". Most of them use either whats issued or they find something they like and use it. As they progress in their careers they learn by doing/making mistakes. I learned early on. I had always been a hunter so guns were a thing for me. I like shooting sports and I was well educated as an enthusiast. The first time I saw an coworker carrying a $150-$200 knife, I thought that was insane. I showed him the gas station Fakerco I had and said it was just fine. He took my knife, opened it and put the blade halfway into an open filing cabinet drawer. He slammed the drawer shut and broke the blade in half. He gave me his knife so that I could do the same. I tried. It scratched it, and the drawer had a "bite" in it. I was impressed. He gave me that knife and gave me the buy once, cry once speech. Mind you this was before the internets were what they are now. Case in point, my Streamlight SL20x is from 2004? I still use it and I finally found someone here that had a Malkoff Drop in so that I could update it. I still carry that light and the yougins laugh at me or call it my "Molly Whopper".

Side bar....if any one has another Malkoff for the SL20 hit me up!

In my city cars, random aaa/aa EDCs. Don't use a light much.

I do a lot of overlanding, few days to few weeks deep in BC bush country. In my bush truck or Jeep:

- fenix pd41 or ML150 Mag for daily use, nothing fancy, just need some throw
- 6D with Malkoff dropin. Doubles as defense against smaller animals (45-70 and bear spray for big ones)
- TN42 for searching lost drunk buddies at night, lol

Recently ordered an MS32. Not for fun, but need it to search for good camp spots at night. Sometimes we arrive into the bush quite late, and want to scan for a good scenic spot worth setting camp for next few days.

Need a huge flooder to light up a mountain valley. The TN42 is too focused, and I have to mentally piece together what I saw. Light bar on truck is useless, as I can't pivot a big truck around just to scan a potential site. Hopefully the MS32 can give me an accurate picture of the view I'll be expecting once the run rises.

Always in the truck is a little 1xAA L3 Illumination L10 in an olive color.
But during camping season, in addition, it's anyone's guess. But usually, it's my JetBeam T4 Pro.

Currently I have the Imalent dx80, acebeam e10 and an Olight baton 3 in my personal vehicle. Theirs also a bag of lights that just didn't feel right for work that I got to put back on the shelf but procrastination is strong lately

I was most resistant to change. I started with a Magcharger and a G2 with P60 Xenon bulbs. Even after I lost my first magcharger, I bough the exact same one. Then suddenly boom, I started trying other brands and I was hooked. Hooked to modding lights and such. Yes you are right, most cops only use what they are issued, they are terrible about maintenance and most of the time their stuff doesnt work right because of it. Dirty guns, flashlights with bad batteries and holes in uniforms.

Speaking of the SL20, I was issued an SL20X that I had put a terralux drop in it. It made it quite nice and then it was left on the back of the cruiser during a contact at a business park. I drove off and I havent seen those terralux drops since. (I also had to admit to losing equipment and took a butt chewing for it)

Some on duty eye candy for ya fellers. These were from a few nights ago. The SL20X has a Malkoff drop in that I aquired from a friendly CPF'er here. I ran out of bulbs and didn't want to retire it. I have also started carrying my older Streamlight Ultra Stinger too. I will post another pic when I go back on Friday.

So in my professional opinion. It's perfect for city police work. The newest SL20 is nice and it's a laser beam. But when on patrol in town I prefer the Malkoff. I wish he still made them. Plus this light is 15-20 years old and has scars and stories….maybe a little DNA that is not mine. 😁

In the car I keep the 3D Maglite with the Adventure Sports 5000 lumen kit and the brass D spacer insert.

On the bike is a stock Cygolite I have had for years mostly as a daylight blinky but also as supplemental light to the built in lights on the Gazelle (I forget the brand). the Cygolite has been good and has a tabbed 18650 inside that seems fine still. the USB charger connector did break a few months ago and I had to replace that but good as new now. and of course I have my EDC Emisar D2 in my pocket and the the Sofirn IF 23 in my bag for backups as needed

My go to is a big blue 4 D cell. It has the excellent Malkoff 3-4 D cell in it. It also has a trick low impedance switch. I estimate an easy 390-420 lumens OTF. Despite not having a 10,000 lumen light one has to wonder what is next?

Oops. I have so many lights Idk where they all are. Piles of old M*G projects, old Fenix lights, old NC lights new SF lights. I just recently jumped on the SF bandwagon like a year ago and got the "regular" 1500 lumen Fury then I got on. I kind of went on a M*gz/SF raid anywhere I could. Wound up with some weird SF parts and the funky looking short light meant for rifles.

My biggest gripe with SF is that the pocket clip on both my EDC SF's really cannot withstand tool belt or much anything else. The pocket clips are made of some cheap metal. The clip bends in any direction no problem. NOW....if there WAS a nice case or sheath for these $200 LED lights I would be first in line.

Yeah, those clips absolutely are not designed for tool-belts.
Honestly, can't think of any from any flashlight company that are.
