I've been thinking about one of these, because of the very long run time they can provide in low mode, and easily replaceable battery. Worst case scenario is to take the battery from the smoke detectors to power one up.

Pak-lite SUPER bright runs for 30+ hours on high, and 600+ hours on low using Alkaline and 80+ hours on high, and 1,200+ hours on low using lithium.

Safelight has 20+ hours on high, 100+ hours on strobe, and 1 year on glow mode.

I receive these info from the lighthound website.
Which one do you think i should buy if i only choose one?

Thanks

Get the Safelight. They are built very well, good all around brightness, and the batteries are really easy to change.

Don't remove battery from smoke detector in a blackout when someone might be using candles or matches for illumination.

I'd also go for Safelight as an interesting light. Paklite is cute but I'd rather home-make something like that. Overall though, 9V batteries aren't that practical. Get something powered by AA's is my advice (Gerber Ultra, etc). There will always be clocks, tape players etc. that you can scrounge AA's from.

Safelights are great lights. The glow mode makes them so easy to find in a backpack, tent, or any room at night - it's a great portable night light that becomes a flashlight! When you change the smoke detector batteries twice a year, use the partially used ones for the Safelight.

I vote for the Safelight too.

I have one since about 7 years (build from/for Lucido) and it was my companion at many expeditions in the world, specialy Africa. After innumerable drops it still works, except the high mode (flickering).
But it's still usefull:).

You can't go wrong.

Best regards

The safelight wider optics are much improved from the purple glob glow one got from an original palight but the form factor is quite a bit bigger. I used to consider an original palight to be pocketable but I don't really think so for the safelight. I would imagine from pictures I have seen that the paklight has a smaller form factor. There are some paklight supporters so perhaps someone can answer the following questions. How bright is the paklight compared to the safelight and with the exposed battery, just how weather resistant is a paklight? Are the 9V contacts completely sealed off from the elements when the head is attached? Safelight has indicated it uses the latest Nichia CS LEDs, not sure about paklight.

Not that it needs it, but another vote for Safe-Light. I really like the clip, it rotates 360 degrees, and is even removeable. Such a cool light!
