My favorite EDCs to be compact so that they are easy to carry around. I also expect that the birghtness on high mode is good as I tend to use high mode often.

Ease of access and connection to the charging port.
Safe charging circuit that doesn't overcharge, and protects from accidental attempts to charge CR123 or RCR123.
Starts on Low (or this is selectable) and has a moon mode.

Durable - can take a drop and rain/drop in shallow water.
Direct access to low and easy access to med / high.

For true EDC (always in my jeans pocket) I prefer 1xAAA
For outdoor / jacket pocket / around the house 1-2 x AA or 18650

I expect an EDC light to be small and bright with a very low moonlight mode.

"What do you expect the most of an EDC/Sports flashlight?"

My ideal edc flashlight:
1. Compact: diameter < 2.5cm, length < 10cm
2. Simply(!) and safely(!) rechargeable: charging dock (no usb-port at flashlight), safe termination at 4.15v (no standby current after termination!)
3. Simple user interface: 3 modes at max (no blinking modes)
4. Bright: ~1000 lumen turbo
Additional requirements for an outdoor/sports edc:
5. Shock-proof: at least 2m
6. Water-proof: at least 2m

Thanks for the giveaway!

Pocketable, 18650 for jeans and shorts, AAA for work slacks. I like AA and CR123 also for emergencies, but they are better in the glove box. Multiple modes, preferably one in the .25-.5 lumens with another 3-5 modes. If there are any blinking modes they should be hidden.
