Prices rising here in Norway too.
Diesel has stayed at ~2 USD (~20 kroner) per litre (metric) for a long time now, but has skyrocketed only these past couple weeks. Was 2.4 recently, and almost 3 USD (29.86 Kroner) today. Nuts!
To put it into perspective and keeping it simple, with 1 USD ~ 10 NOK (currently) and 1 US gallon is 3.8 litres...it would be around 11.7 USD per gallon for diesel here in Norway.
The government want people over on electric, but they fail to grasp how that doesn't work as well in the countryside, with both long distances and low temperatures. The stated range can pretty much be half on cold days. And prices for an electric car that you would actually want - size, range etc. - is around 70.000 USD equivalent. A new Tesla Model Y is about the same as a few years old petrol Porsche.
I currently have a 2008 VW Caddy TDi, and I want back to petrol - the politicians promised diesel would stay cheaper than petrol, but that didn't happen. Also, petrol engines work so much better in the cold. I don't want electric, not in their current state - I'm not paying to be a beta tester for battery technology, and if something happens like accidentally landing in a ditch, the car might as well be a write-off due to the cost of replacing all the fragile electronics (the sensors etc., is required by law to be there and functional if installed by the factory).
Was recently a news article where a large car retailer said "we have to expect new cars has issues with the electronics and software bugs". Such statements makes me want an electric car SO much...
