Gas prices

Prices rising here in Norway too.
Diesel has stayed at ~2 USD (~20 kroner) per litre (metric) for a long time now, but has skyrocketed only these past couple weeks. Was 2.4 recently, and almost 3 USD (29.86 Kroner) today. Nuts!

To put it into perspective and keeping it simple, with 1 USD ~ 10 NOK (currently) and 1 US gallon is 3.8 litres...it would be around 11.7 USD per gallon for diesel here in Norway.

The government want people over on electric, but they fail to grasp how that doesn't work as well in the countryside, with both long distances and low temperatures. The stated range can pretty much be half on cold days. And prices for an electric car that you would actually want - size, range etc. - is around 70.000 USD equivalent. A new Tesla Model Y is about the same as a few years old petrol Porsche.

I currently have a 2008 VW Caddy TDi, and I want back to petrol - the politicians promised diesel would stay cheaper than petrol, but that didn't happen. Also, petrol engines work so much better in the cold. I don't want electric, not in their current state - I'm not paying to be a beta tester for battery technology, and if something happens like accidentally landing in a ditch, the car might as well be a write-off due to the cost of replacing all the fragile electronics (the sensors etc., is required by law to be there and functional if installed by the factory).

Was recently a news article where a large car retailer said "we have to expect new cars has issues with the electronics and software bugs". Such statements makes me want an electric car SO much...

Up to $4 now from $3.05. It’s climbing quickly.

Here’s a map of the U.S. from AAA:

^we in the US always seem to complain about fuel prices even tho' the rest of the world is paying 2-3x as much....or more.
We really are spoiled.
There is an upside though - doesn't sound like it at first, but let me explain.
Of those 11.7 USD, the government takes roughly 60 % in taxes (including road tax, C02-tax and a 25 % consumption tax on top of all of that). But most of those taxes goes back into our healthcare system.

Since I retired a couple months ago I’m much more aware of costs. Yup, I’m there.
Where I live in NYS gasoline has gone from $3.05 to $3.69 in 2 weeks because of the war. I may have to start hitting the reservations to get tax free gas and lower the prices some.
What are prices like where you live?
$3.89 in NYC as of yesterday.

It popped up here $.30 practically overnight. We’re used to small incremental changes but these large jumps can have a stressful impact.
I hope this is winding down. The Iranian people deserve a chance to rebound. The world deserves lower oil/gas prices. We can do this.

Higher gas prices is the least of the issues during Spring Break.... Nearly everyone who partied in Houston came back home with STDs. I would link the video, but this is the regular Cafe.

Spring break is nothing new. It has occurred for decades. Higher gas prices affect me directly.

expect an Aluminum shortage soon, and a Nitrogen/Urea fertilizer shortage as well.
The effects of those are going to push prices up on a lot of widely used products and food, taken w/ the cost of transport going up the future keeps looking more and more expensive.

It’s going to be a tough year for consumers. Now that I’m retired I’m much more aware. I’m fortunate that I have the means but worry about those who do not.
