That’s pretty decent performance though, so it might actually be d2, well a good Chinese version of it anyway.

    C535 VS C535

The second knife might pick up some cuts at 16 degrees as it seems a bit harder. I’ve just released a video on YouTube.

Did they actually advertise an hrc on that knife? It would be interesting to know if they are lying about the hrc.

    Ferro Rod_A_Holic

My senior students just did a bushcraft unit at school and one of the tasks was to start a fire with a ferro rod. They all passed but their feather sticks were atrocious. Takes practice right. I let them cheat a little and use some fat wood.

    Big Hunk of Steel

Yeah but it comes with a pencil holder in the blade, how cool is that???

Mystery Nordic Knife ( from China )

I don’t know why it is that scandi’s can be so far out, I suppose it’s just more noticeable because of the amount of steel you have to remove. Thanks for the review, it makes the Focuser Outdoor scandi a way better knife, although this one looks great. Love that spine. I do find scandi’s harder...

Chinese - BOK - put to the rope .

All I can say again is: FFCCFF or is it CCFFCC, yes the latter. Sitivien is doing great for the money.

    CMF put to the rope

That’s strange that 65hrc didn’t t perform better than that. Maybe it has retained austenite or something and hard to deburr but then you would have said if it was nasty to sharpen.

    C-BK-18 put to the rope

3cr at 54hrc? I would give that one a miss.

CMK put to the rope !

300 slices probably puts it at 5cr level. I don’t think too many of the cheap knives have kydex plastic but just plastic, which is still better than vinyl. I’ve never seen anyone do some sort of scratch test to see if a sheath is really kydex but I have seen someone do a drop test to see how the...

    Kiridashi from ColdSteel

Coldsteel always use to be maximum performance for the steel, even for a 420 class steel. 420 will only get you so far and if it is 55hrc, you are in a world of hurt edge rentention wise (think Gerber Strongarm). For the same price CCFFCC k110 any day.

    Chinese BK16

I bought a coffee and an apple turnover today $18 from a bakery. That’s it I’m done with these rip off prices. They can keep their inflated food prices and I’ll go hungry……until I get home.

Clone Fieldcraft ( made in China )

I’m going to have to get some files. Where did you get yours from because I don’t think I would trust Chinese ones.

Time to do some more testing : Bevel angle !

I’ve caught up on these videos and now I will have to try some of my knives from 18 degrees to 16. Geometry wins out on edge retention as long as the knife is tough enough to withstand rolling at that hrc. All the knives improved, at least for cutting rope and probably most cutting tasks, but...

Time to do some more testing : Bevel angle !

I just tried to regrind the Focuser outdoor scandi. The grind is definitely out by quite a few degrees. I decided to progressively get the profile back over many sharpenings and so it has a 14.6 degree scandi with a micro 20 degree sec edge. It is screaming sharp but interesting that the Flissa...
