Hello everyone, I’m in NY and PA. I wish everyone affected by these storms and hurricanes a speedy recovery.
 
Yes private Helicopters.
I did see some military choppers, but of the type the military doesn’t use any more. CH-47 Chinook and the Air Force version of the Blackhawk (Pave Low) and a few Blackhawks probably decommissioned as i think replaced by the Osprey machines? And one Huey UH-1.

I and my business were bullseye for Helene but all ok. Some damage here and there for us (lots for my customers but we are helping) but mostly outbuildings, trees and power lines damaged.

My son had to stay in Clearwater / Tampa Bay for Milton but is fine- without power for several more days but fine.

We are lifetime Floridians so have always had plenty of supplies and keep trees away from
houses! But flooding and storm surge are scary things to run from! (Run from water, hide from wind!)

Thanks for checking on us southerners- we will keep helping those who weren’t ready for what Helene brought!
 
Anyways the weather here has cooled the last two days. House opened up all day. A/C getting a nice break though up here even in the summer it doesn’t run all that much set at 73/74 degrees.
Sadly all my many hummingbirds have flown the coupe. Guessing i have a dozen swarming the nectar at the busiest time then poof they gone.
I did see a straggler yesterday and learned to leave feeders up a week or two after they leave just in case.
Hopefully the storms are done but still in the season so stay vigilant.
If you can donate a little to help the storms victims there are several options. Samaritans Purse, Mercury 0ne(the one i chose) Cajun Navy, Pineapple Express, American Red Cross, just to mention a few.
Most of then are run by veterans and coordinate together to accomplish the mission.
 
Direct hit here in Venice, Florida but we have roll down shutters and back up generator. Very scary storm especially having been brushed by Helene a couple weeks ago. Thinking of moving to Alaska!!
 
Alaska? Being eaten by a bear isn’t my idea of safety!
Seriously it’s gotta be pretty up there and seems you don’t hear about disaster happening up there.
The whole thing about being in the dark for months ( not sure how many) during the winter would be a non starter for me. Anyone on here from Alaska that can enlighten me/us on that?
 
I'm in SWPA, but my daughter lives in Sarasota , 3 minutes off the bay.
This is her fourth hurricane since she moved there.
Her house is at 7' elevation.
My wife and I were extremely concerned and worried for her safety and welfare.
She was forced to evacuate on Tuesday.
She, her dog & home were spared catastrophic damage.
Awnings were torn off the house - no glass was broken! Roof intact.
No surge entered her home.
The eye of the storm passed directly over/through her neighborhood.
She returned home on Thursday evening to what looked like a war zone of debris and a yacht grounded 70 yards from her house.
She still has no power and no cell service, has to drive downtown for cell service.

Just joking. Anyway, we have people killed by alligators down here.

FYI pineapple express was an operation that was begun by operation pineapple who are vets and special forces soldiers to help get stranded Americans out of Afghanistan.

Yes it was. Imagine going into Afghanistan after the fall to rescue people the enemy is trying to track down and kill? But they shift their mission to where it's needed most.
Also when i lived in LA area and San Jose area i experienced several Earthquakes.
I was in a room with my little brother back in the bunkbed days and i told my brother to quit shaking the bed? He was such a pest back then so naturally that was what i thought was causing the bed to shake lol.

Thank you all for checking out on us. I was out of the state during hurricane Milton. We are back in FL and the Boca Raton area looks normal. Just a lot of rain. My prayers to all affected by hurricane Hellen and Milton.

Thank you Mr. Ed for reaching out to check on my welfare in relation to our recent natural disasters. I live in Northern California and would like to donate to help our friends back east. Any recommendations or is the Red Cross the way to go?
 
Doing OK here in northern Michigan. No impacts from Milton, but the remnants of Helene almost made it up here, and we had some nice, warm, breezy days as it approached.

I've lived at my current location for going on 25 years now. We do get extra-tropical cyclones (ETCs) every now and then that are just as intense as tropical storms. Living about a mile/1.6 km from Lake Michigan, the winds from these have ripped siding, soffits, and shingles off of my home and sent debris flying into windows and onto my car. An ETC around 28 October 2010 brought constant 50 mph/80 km/h winds and 70 mph/112 km/h gusts for over two days and caused extensive damage. Superstorm Sandy was nearly as intense when it reached here.
