JimIslander is safe here in the beautiful Lowcountry of South Carolina. We dodged Helene and Melvin for the most part. A few trees down, a couple tornados, and flooding. Very thankful. Prayers and smoke out for those who are recovering and about to go through the slog of rebuilding. Been there, and it sucks. Better when it's over, except for those things you lost that you can't get back.
Baked some fresh homemade sourdough this morning.
Yesterday's hike/"hunt" on a local sea island.
Trails were all flooded, but still good to get out and hike. That's literally the trail to my game cam. In the distance, center of photo, you can just make out a deer stand.
Golden hour in the deer stand. I saw 8 deer. No desire to kill anything today. Fridge is seriously low on venison, so I'll harvest one soon. But not last night.
The corn we harvested has sprouted a whole new second crop. It won't make it to bloom, much less putting on ears. But sure is pretty.

Thank you for checking in on me, Mr. Ed. I am doing ok here in California. I had my second open heart surgery in the last 20 years in April. It was for Mitral Valve repair. The repair itself went good/normal. Along with it, I had a Big "side dish" of complications and I am extremely lucky to be alive. Im told it will be a year before I'm fully back to pre surgery condition. I believe it. This has been the most challenging event of my life

NJ here, no issues, but I have family in Tampa, Port Charlotte and Melbourne, FL. Thankfully just a few torn porch screens and one broken car rear windshield from a branch, but no injuries or major house damage.

Hope you are all well there! Here in The country of the Dutchies all is perfectly fine! People ith self built home storage will have power so please share this with others!
My step son said "I doubt there'll be any looting where I live due all those alligators patrolling the streets after the hurricane was over" since there are a bunch of displaced alligators around Okachobee.

I'm on Long Island, but was on the phone with a friend in New Port Richie when the wind suddenly got extra crazy. His power started flickering so we hung up but got word the next day he kept power, and his roof.

I am living at what was ground zero for Katrina, here in Mississippi, but since moving here 2 1/2 years ago, no hurricanes have hit here. My heart bleeds for those in NC, SC, Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, & Florida. We are a town east of Waveland.

Here in the Western foothills of NC we had a lot of big trees knocked over in the forest behind my house. Thankfully the trees next to our house stayed in the ground. Some neighbors had trees on their houses.
Lots of power lines too. We were lucky as we dodged a bullet. They were running supplies to the very west side of NC where all the real damage and loss of life occurred via Helicopters out of Hickory Regional airport a stones throw south of me.
