I have read that the XPG2's run a little cooler that the first generations.

Do you guys think that I could run an M61N L in a G2 with a plastic head for extended periods?

Typically, the recommendation is 300ma or less in a G2, so that would be right on the edge.
Probably be okay.

Any Malkoff 'L' can be operated continuously in a plastic head G2. The M60's were driven slightly harder so were theoretically hotter than the 61's (~4W vs. ~3.5W IIRC), and these new XP-G2 M61's should be slightly cooler still. Malkoff rated the original M60L's for continuous duty in the full-nitrolon G2's.

I think I've got it bad, it all started with a pink MD2 Nichia 219, I am waiting on my Hound Dog and just ordered a black MD2 Nichia 219 :broke:

The Hound Dog XML is a very good combination of throw with wide spill. It has the throw of the Hound Dog XPG(around 250 yards), and a good approximation of the flood from the earlier model Wildcats. It's almost like getting both in one light. Very good first choice for the bigger Malkoff lights.
And at the price he is selling them at now, it's almost like a give-away.

4L's that is exciting. What would be good too, is an M31LLL. My M31LL puts out about 75 lumens (questimate comparing other Malkoff M61 series using a light meter and bounce). That would allow decent output and runtime with one AA, or one CR123.

Oveready has M61NLLLL for sale! That's right 4 L's.

M61N SHO - 5.5-12v - 1000ma - 400L (8+ volts)

M61N - 3.4-9.0v - 650ma - 300L

M61N L - 3.4-9.0v - 300ma - 160L

M61N LL - 3.4-9.0v - 150ma - 85L

M61N LLL - 3.4-9.0v - 75ma - 60L

M61N LLLL - 3.4-9.0v - 40ma - 30L (approximate)

I am very glad to see Gene making these. In my opinion, there were much better modules out there for the money and quality than what he offered in the P60 selection. With the advent of him using the XP-G2, I think that he is once again as good an option as any, and better than 90%, regarding the product.

As to Gene himself, I'm very happy for him to make a buck or two off of me. He's a great guy and an American businessman who provides a quality product and hires other Americans who can then feed THEIR families. There is nothing to not like about his business and how he conducts it and I am proud to buy his products.

More than 250 yards!

From the malkoffdevices website:

"This is the Malkoff Devices "Hound Dog" XM-L. The output is 750 (measured) Out The Front Lumens. It was designed primarily for throw (reach) and will easily illuminate objects at 1000+ feet."

Perhaps the air is clearer in Alabama than it is in Tennessee. The site said the same thing about the XPG Hound Dog.
On my street, I can get about 250 yards of light that's good enough for me to identify what I'm looking at. That's how I gauge the throw distance. And I agree that they throw well enough for me. And the Hound Dog XML definitely has great spill that is wide and useful, and that makes a very nice light indeed!
I own both Hound Dog versions. Love them both!

The four L's sound amazing! I have an M61NLLL and a M61LLL219 and love them both, I don't think the batteries will ever die in either one. :)

I have a M31LL and I'm wondering if it is an overacheiver... the output looks identical to my M61L.

The M31LL looks more like 90-100 lumens doesn't it?

With my M31LL the initial brightness is at least 100lm using 2AAs. But it then gradually drops to a several hours flat regulated 60lm. I don't know how it is with one CR123, however.

My Surefire 9P with a 2-AA setup and a M31 and M31 LL are two of my favorite every day, around the house use lights. The M31 LL is a little easier on the AA cells with longer run times.

I am also experimenting with a M61 LLL using 2-AA's. Also very promising run times. And useful lumens.
