Just curious, it seems that the Nichia dropins were passionately anticipated when they were not available, and now that they are, my subjective perception is that many or most of you don't like them?

This makes the waiting time until I will have received my ordered M61 219B even more exciting ...

My Nitecore MT06MD has a 219B 5000K, a very white white, great pattern without articfacts, maybe emphasizes blues a little much but otherwise renders great in actual use and especially outdoors.

So does my M61N, haven't compared them side by side (outdoors) though.

I like them all, M61N, M61WL, the Nitecore. And the Fenix LD25 (4000K) is also a good outdoor performer though it is the least liked tint on the whitewall, a slightly greenish tint and some artifacts.

When it comes to the light any flashlight produces, the color temperature and tint are my least concern, the color correctness my second, I primarily care about the capability to render the environment "tangibly" (if that makes sense), high-contrasty and 3dimensional, in other words not "flat".

Shame on me that I haven't done a serious direct comparison of my lights in this regard yet, but I reckon it depends somehow on the specific environment as such
(wood, field, desert, jungle) i.e. colors, textures and structures.

How does the output in terms of lumens look?

The 50 lm from the M31LL is plenty for navigation after dark. I think you'll be pleased. Run time is killer.

So i got the extra dummy cell from Malkoff but the cover doesn't lip over the sides.

Mine is the same way. It seems that there is enough insulation material built up around the edge to prevent contact with the inside of the tube, but I use a small piece of electrical tape just to be on the safe side.

Just curious, it seems that the Nichia dropins were passionately anticipated when they were not available, and now that they are, my subjective perception is that many or most of you don't like them?

These are my first Nichias. Until I received them on Thursday, I had never seen one in action before. Perhaps I was taken in by the hype? I've promised to stop complaining, but I felt compelled to record my first impressions.

New England woods.
I checked the forum rules. There are none against stating an opinion either pro or con about a gear item. LOL! I also wasn't happy with how the shrink wrap was applied to the CR123 spacer so took are of it. Will post photos later.

I currently cannot motivate myself to figure out what I want to do for the next test.

I think for tonight; i will just focus on getting the runtime graphs in order and linked.

If anyone has a request for something i have not tested, let me know and i will get it going after i top off the appropriate cells. Oh, i know a test that needs to be done....I need to run the Energizer Lithium on the neutral MDC aa so i can add it to the AA shootout:D

M31LL 219B and M31LLL 219B. CR123 and Energizer Lithium 1- AA and 2-AA test please. I'm very curious to see how the LL compares to the L in regard to runtimes.

The thread is looking better all the time.

@INFRNL. Before you sell off any part of your Malkoff collection, please make a new photo of them. Everyone wants to see 40+ Malkoffs in one place!
It's really nothing special or exciting

So i got the extra dummy cell from Malkoff but the cover doesn't lip over the sides. Wonder if that's ok as the rest of my batteries do including a 18650 I replaced the cover
Sadly it seems that there have been some quality cuts recently. I really liked my older dummy cells that have it wrapped over the edges. These new ones are cut with the edges as you have shown.

My last order i picked up a couple more and have been this way. I bought 4 more MDX heads and they came with flat gaskets instead of the typical o-rings. I am not sure of the inconsistencies recently. I guess as long as it works is the most important part.
As far as the dummy cells; I have thought about getting some battery wrap sleeves and making them look like they used to. I do have some 18650 wrappers, I might try it on one.

Maybe there were people complaining about connection issues with the wrap coming over the edge; so Gene eliminated that issue by cutting them flush to the edge.

They are more expensive, but they are of better quality.

Those aren't really too bad for price and definitely a safer design. I have also been wanting some different length spacers. ie, use 18500 in md2, etc.

M31LL 219B and M31LLL 219B. CR123 and Energizer Lithium 1- AA and 2-AA test please. I'm very curious to see how the LL compares to the L in regard to runtimes.

I do not have these modules.
However I think (trying to think of what I own) I did a test on M61NLL modified to run @ 50lm. This simulated a M61NLLL.

I do not recall if Craig has plans to place an order for the LLL, but if he does; I will definitely be ordering anything that is available that I do not currently have

This is either modesty or boredom. Perhaps a mixture?

Aw, c'mon. Please?

I would not classify the substitution of a gasket for an O-ring as a lapse in quality. The gaskets work perfectly well in the VME heads. I think they'd keep an MDX water tight, just as easily. At any rate, O-rings are extremely cheap when purchased in quantity. It doesn't make sense as a money saving measure.

I will keep this in mind.
I saw your FS thread today...unfortunately I keep seeing Malkoff items for sale after the fact that I placed orders from Gene. I need to learn to be more patient.

Maybe I should change that post. The gasket vs o-ring isn't quality related but a consistency deal. lately i have been getting weird things like this on my orders.

My main quality issues are with finish and the change on the dummy cells and the pin on the H/L ring not sticking out as much as they used to.

As far as the comment on Malkoff family. I guess when you look at say 10 Malkoffs lined up compared to 40+ it could seem crazy/exciting. It sounds like I have a ton of Malkoffs, but when i look at them it doesn't seem to be as much as one would imagine.
I want to take a new pic, but i am currently waiting on My illumn order(s).

Last night before bed, I decided to run the MDC N AA Eneloop Pro test. Today i was looking for my Spreadsheets and realized I have already run this test a little while ago.

No big deal...but the test from last night ran really well after seeing its results compared to the previous test. It actually did better than the Energizer Lithium for a good portion of the test. I'm getting ready to post results. I am not sure what causes these differences.

Results will be in the runtime thread here in a few (need to take a break first)

Mailman just stopped by. Looks like i got part of my order from Illumn. I hope that Craig is keeping track of what has been ordered and what still need to be shipped when more stock come in.
I ordered a M361 219b which I though was in stock when i ordered but it did not come.

Also it appears that my sanyo/panny GA 18650's are not available and accidentally ordered the Keeppower GA cells. They were left in my cart and didn't realize it when i placed the order. That's ok. My last order i got the unprotected cells on accident because i wasn't paying attention.

So I believe i currently now have M31 219, M31L 219, and M31LL 219; just need to hope Craig does an order for the M31LLL 219.

This is what My office looks like every time I come home. It was clean a week ago.

Posted new graphs. Going to clean up the office a little so i can attempt to get a decent current Malkoff Family photo....Then it will be back to my new nightmare of getting all my graphs in order for the thread. One would think it would be fairly easy, but there is definitely a lot of time involved; even for this process.

I still have a ton of graphs to go through and post

Well I got everything from illumination supply except the one thing I wanted. The Malkoff isn't in the package despite the packing list saying it should be there. package perfectly sealed but no Malkoff M31LL. Dang. Why does it have to be the one thing I really wanted. The rest of the order was really just filler. I am not happy.

If I remember correctly, you got the last M31LL before they sold out. Feeling disappointed with you, friend.

got the office straightened up a bit. I need to build a shelf to either put some of my stuff on or to hold my soldering/test equipment. Actually a wall to wall shelf for the Malkoff's might not be a bad idea either.

I have lived in this house since 2006; you would think that i could find the time to break out my box of Zippo's and fill up my Zippo case:eek:

Need some Primaries... My battery station cells seem to be multiplying...
Ykw7kVb.jpg

and the moment you have all been waiting for!!! 51 Malkoff's shown, but one was in the garage being tested, so i currently have 52 and more waiting to be stocked from illumn. Sorry for the poor quality pic

I just threw this together for the pic but all lights with Tricap are Neutral/Warm/Nichia, standard tailcap is for Cool white/UV. Obviously i cannot do this with the MDC lights.

Fantastic! I feel like I need to turn off this computer before my wife catches me looking! It's quite a lovely collection.

Your tests have shown that battery station cells stand up to competition, but my issue with them is that they don't have a date printed on them. Mine have labels like "RILO," whatever that means, whereas my Surefire and Energizer cells have an expiration date 10 years out from the date of manufacture.
