I don't know much about the Olson led other then its a lower output, pencil beam thrower. My question is, how hard is it being pushed? I know it's great for heat, but wondering about run time. I'm assuming better then other LEDs but I don't know. Can someone enlighten me please?

I vote for olson led to go into mini gt vn.. 1st.. reflector is very good and clean.. 2nd. Cheaper host.. 3rd. Runtime will be great using lg mj1 3500 mah/ sony vtc6 protected ... this led doesnt need too much amp.

Since the olson version is in a temporary hiatus, ended up going with SST40 6500K: 2000 Lumen, 140Kcd, 748m Throw

I likely wont revive the GTvn Mini Oslon versions. The build takes too long to get right. I migh tbuild a couple sometime down the road as ONE-OFFs just for fun but that's it.

Aww man, I bought the samsung hi cri version and love it. I was about to buy the oslon version as well, but oh well. If you do decide to make another oslon version could you let me know? I would snatch it up real quick, lol.

another alternative is the d1svn. Very similar in size and performance and same ui. Oslon is $20 more expensive tho.

Boo. This was going to be my first Olson light. But I get it for sure with being a pain in the butt.

All Oslon lights are pain the the butt LOL
Most lights has reflector glued. LED can never be replaced. Good thing this LED is quite reliable.

the GT mini has the form factor I'm attracted to more than larger lights. You mentioned countless mods are possible here. Would it be possible to hit over 500-600Kcd with any LED? Is that something you could try here since this is a very popular host and won't be going away any time soon?

Black Flat is the highest known luminance of any LED on market, will have to wait several years for the tech to advance for something to double the lux in this host.

What type of technology do you think is needed to double or triple led output?

I don't think it will happen soon. HID has many problems. But they still are orders of magnitude ahead in luminous intensity.

HIDs are a niche and for good reasons. Lasers will certainly take a piece of their cake by being good enough yet much cheaper. But the high-end HIDs? I don't think they are threatened.

May be super high end HID flashlights will survive but most of customers arent buying HIDs anymore....in higher end cars or at least as an upscale option LED is replacing HID now.
