In your latest Oveready Insider, you wrote of an option to cut blue light sources from night viewed devices (F.LUX).
On the opening page for F.LUX, there is a button to download a free program to install on Apple devices. When touched, one encounters an explanation that the program can NOT be implemented without jailbreaking. Does that not seem a little 'Bait-and-Switch'? Touching a button to install but then says you have to jailbreak your device, voiding your warranty? I suggest Oveready not promote that kind of thing without informing upfront a jailbreak is required. One opinion.

F.Lux was around for windows, mac, and linux devices long before iOS was a thing. It requires nothing more than an install for those devices.

FWIW, It's not just for Apple devices. Besides, you can revert from jailbreak with no repercussions.

I can't believe you'd bust their balls over sharing a free app.

Well said.

We have your guarantee?

and you've had no problems frequenting Russian porn sites as well?

I definitely am not defending Apple. I am questioning the integrity of F.LUX and their presentation regarding Apple's refusal to allow their 'free' app. That's it. True, it is probably not practical to expect that Oveready will fully vet all that they recommend, to everyone's expectations.

This does give Oveready devotees a chance to stand up for them, I guess. ElectronGuru knows me, and is not surprised at all to see this 'shooting from the hip'.

Re: Suggestions - Oveready / TorchLAB

Speaking for myself, I've been a formal and informal Apple tech for going on 30 years. I am fully aware of the jailbreak requirement of the software I recommended. I leave it up to the individual to discover requirements and decide if they are worth it.

I consider sleep deprivation to be an important health issue and flux to be one of the only SW solutions available to treat one of its major causes (blue screens). I will continue recommending it until better options are available. If you require a non-software solution, there are also amber 'computer glasses' available.

That's your justification?

I only have 6 years experience working with iOS devices, not 30 like Dan does, but it's appears that you do not understand jailbreaking nor Apple's private API policy. Apple chooses not to publish many of their iOS API's for "security reasons". Sometimes this practice is a little extreme, which is why they have the well-earned reputation for being tight @$$es. Jailbreaking is an escalation of user privilege, similar to rooting on Android. Jailbreaking allows the user to access the protected file system and manager. It doesn't :poof: your phone and yes, you can always revert by simply restoring your iPhone through iTunes. While it is true that jailbreaking does pose a potential security risk, it isn't harmful or dangerous in and of itself. You take much larger security risks with your computer and home network on a daily basis without even knowing. There's nothing wrong with erring on the side of caution but don't expect to make spurious comments about security best practices and not get called out for it. If you don't feel comfortable delving into this side of iOS, that's your choice.

This does give Oveready devotees a chance to stand up for them, I guess. ElectronGuru knows me, and is not surprised at all to see this 'shooting from the hip'.

Your comment about bait and switch was overly dramatic and hyperbolic. I would say it for any upstanding company. A fraud allegation is bad taste regardless of whatever shorthand you and Dan supposedly share. :shakehead

Personally, I'm glad Dan chose to share this app.

Have you looked at the link Oveready provided? I am guessing you are used to websites jacking you around with buttons that don't do what they say they are going to do.

Trying to say that because you have much more experience than others does not mean your tolerance for time wasting buttons on a website makes it OK for everyone else. (Insert condescending shaking head emoticon)

You clearly feel wronged. I am making one post to correct this wrong and then this discussion is going into its own thread.

There are two ways to reduce blue light exposure on a 'locked' iOS device:

Invert colors
settings -> general -> accessibility -> invert colors

You can enable triple-click availability by checking it here
settings -> general -> accessibility -> accessibility shortcut

Screen extra dim
Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Zoom -> Enable Zoom.
Tap the screen with three fingers thrice. Press 'Choose Filter' > 'Low Light', Chose Zoom Region to "Full Screen Zoom".

Then enable triple clicking like above
Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Accessibility Shortcut -> Set to "Zoom"

You can check shortcuts for both and they will both appear in a menu when triple clicking.
But if both are turned on at the same time, they cancel each other out.
