I am just wondering what light people would suggest for horseback riding. I currently have a Remington LED headlamp, but I am giving thought to doing something different. How many lumens should i have? Also, should I go with a headlamp or would a helmet mounted light be better? Also, is a regulated LED device better than non-regulated?

I'd imagine you need both hands free so i'd guess a headlamp, Zebralight is the headlamp brand that u want to check out. Horseback riding at night??

Headlight for the horse? No problem :). http://atrey.karlin.mff.cuni.cz/~pavel/picture/horses/zernovka44/p1010019.jpg . But it is quite amusing for the other riders, and think about what happens if you happen to fall.

For rider, I can recommend zebralight h600, and a good battery. See "Petzl Nao vs. Zebralight H600 (aka alone in the dark)" thread. ~50lm is enough for walk/trot and even going fast in familiar area. When going fast in unfamiliar area, I find ~400lm useful.
