What are you drinking?

I'm reminded of a Gabriel Iglesias show he gave about his time in India, and the heckling that he got from some Germans in the audience. I won't go into it for PC reasons, but it was really funny. It is a little long, but the wait is worth it. :)

PATRÓN EL CIELO
100% DE AGAVE

It was 50% off, so I kinda, sorta had to purchase it to save money. :D
Waiting to sample it until I have a friend visit to share it with.

Water, water, then more water. Btw, not from the tap. But the bottled mountain spring stuff. .. :)

Side note: please don't bust my bubble by telling me where it really comes from. TIA! ... :yellowlaugh:

Finally got out and mowed early this morning. Came in and drank a 20 oz bottle of zero sugar Lemon Lime Gatorade. Later had a 6 oz can of pineapple juice with breakfast, then after breakfast had a cup of Starbucks VIA Columbia coffee. This afternoon, I enjoyed a 12 oz can of Kroger Big K Lemon Lime zero sugar soda (pop). :grin2:

Today I learned that there might be a connection between a chemical in instant coffee and a type of macular degeneration. I don't drink instant coffee, but if I did, I would've stopped after reading this article.

Well, that's great. Thankfully I cut down my instant coffee consumption to an average of once a day. But obviously that's too much. Thanks for the heads-up.

Thanks for the link to the article.

I personally feel that the news website is a bit too alarming, as in their own article they incorporate a lot of weasel words to back down on their alarmist words.

One thing that the article said that tended to alleviate the concern, was that the study showed an increased risk for those who preferred instant coffee, which I definitely do not! I'll use instant if I'm feeling too lazy to make brewed coffee, or access to the coffee maker is restricted due to the missus working in the kitchen, so it isn't my preferred coffee--it's an occasional convenience thing.

Two things in particular concern me about the article:
1. It is a Chinese study, which makes it suspect right there, and
2. It was targeted specifically at instant coffee, which is the chosen method of coffee prep for the majority of the world, and I think largely done by Nestle company. Could the purpose of the paper be to affect the finances of the Nestle company? I wonder.

I did go on to link to the original study, and I printed it out. I am scheduled for an eye exam next month, so I'll show the paper to my eye doctor for their opinion on the matter. I'll try to remember to post the opinion here.

Interesting observation, Sol Man. I don't know if Nestle owns the patents for this process, but if they do, it could make sense. I would hope that other labs can either correlate or refute this study.

This statement from the study jumped off the screen at me:
Although coffee consumption is positively correlated with longevity, instant coffee consumption is negatively correlated with the aging biomarker telomere length

Over the years, coffee has been reported to be good for you, then bad for you, then good again. I'm hoping it stays on the "good" side in terms of it's reported health benefits, both physical and cognitive.

Royal Crown Cola was started in the basement of a grocery store in Columbus, Georgia. The owner used to purchase large volumes of Coca-Cola syrup for his customers and felt he deserved a volume discount for the product. The distributor refused to offer a discount, so he decided to stop purchasing the name brand syrup and developed his own cola, calling it Royal Crown.
