I personally feel that the news website is a bit too alarming, as in their own article they incorporate a lot of weasel words to back down on their alarmist words.
One thing that the article said that tended to alleviate the concern, was that the study showed an increased risk for those who preferred instant coffee, which I definitely do not! I'll use instant if I'm feeling too lazy to make brewed coffee, or access to the coffee maker is restricted due to the missus working in the kitchen, so it isn't my preferred coffee--it's an occasional convenience thing.
Two things in particular concern me about the article:
1. It is a Chinese study, which makes it suspect right there, and
2. It was targeted specifically at instant coffee, which is the chosen method of coffee prep for the majority of the world, and I think largely done by Nestle company. Could the purpose of the paper be to affect the finances of the Nestle company? I wonder.
I did go on to link to the original study, and I printed it out. I am scheduled for an eye exam next month, so I'll show the paper to my eye doctor for their opinion on the matter. I'll try to remember to post the opinion here.
