Convoy flashlight opinions?

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

Please pardon me for any confusion in my understanding here, but are you saying you lost 4 Convoy S21 flashlights this year, as in a little over 3 months?

...And you now want to get a smaller flashlight, that is even easier to lose?

I don't know what an asbestos surveyor does exactly (all I know about asbestos is staying the hell away from it), but may I suggest using the included wristband? Or if you need more reach (which I can understand), how about a spiral lanyard?

No I meant in the last 12 months 😀

Am I missing something here? I have to say the L21B emitter list is really confusing...
I am looking at specifically "Green light" and "Red light" - but there are so many versions, hence the quotation marks, I can't really tell which is what.

I bought one for myself, KP.CSLPM1.F1 ("Green light") and one for a friend, KR CSLNM1.23 ("Red light").
As I didn't know better at the time, I went with those emitters - as I understand it now, the F1 is phosphor converted(?), meaning it contains more white and is brighter, and the KR CSLNM1.23 is more orange (617 nm).

Neither of us were completely happy with the lights, as I wanted more Green and my friend wanted more brightness.
If I were to buy these lights again, is it the KT CULPM1.13 ("530 verdure light") I want for pure green, and SST-20-DR ("660 nm deep red") for more red and brightness?

How is Convoy's warranty?
My 3X21E, 519A 1800K just broke. I turned it on, put on Turbo and heard a brief fizzle from the light.

One LED is completely dead, with another barely glowing.

Email sent.

I can't replace the LEDs (don't have a soldering iron), so I asked for a discount on a new light.
First Convoy with an issue out of a 22 lights, with another 7 on the way.

I believe Convoy comes with a 1 year warranty were he will replace the light or send you the required parts. Simon has been pretty good about getting back to my questions in a timely manner.

Does anyone have a chart showing the approximate runtimes for the various LED options in the various lights?

i hope he can make it right for you...might be time to pick up a soldering iron lol
I have wanted one for a long time, but as it is right now, I don't have a proper workstation.

Got a suitable room, but it is a mess right now. Have a plan to clean it up, and install a fan on the wall for ventilation (will be next to a window, but for lead solder, I want active ventilation). Another project on the to-do list...

Yeah, been in touch with Simon a couple times - he has always replied within 48 hours (unlike the Norwegian police who I contacted back in November regarding an issue, and still waiting for more than an automatic reply).

I also told Simon in the email I don't have a soldering iron, so replacement LEDs won't do me any good. Hence the request for a discount on a new light. I can still use the light, but it's annoying seeing the dead LED.

not to derail the thread, but surely there can't be enough crime in Norway to keep the police THAT busy, lol...
True. There's actually so little crime, their funding has been cut back every year for several years now. To the point where something does happen, they barely have resources to deal with it. Outside the cities, anyway - and I live in the countryside.

So if there is a need to involve the police, it's often "case closed to due lack of evidence", or "case closed due to lack of resources". That last one isn't even a joke, there's been several news articles.

Can't say I like the police anyway.

I have always liked these Convoy lights for hosts and they are pretty easy to mod yourself. If you want to start tinkering with modding you can find all sorts of drivers , emitters, and 18350 adapters online. The last batch I ordered came from mtnelectronics and gadgetconnections. I built 4 different Convoy S2 lights and it was pretty fun to mix and match the drivers with various emitters.

There is a certain pride with making your own light and for these S2 hosts if you can do a little basic soldering it is fairly easy. With the right driver, emitter and a healthy 18350 cell you can build a little screamer and do it for a very reasonable cost.

Just heard back from Simon. He is offering me a 20 USD discount on a new light.
...I'll give it some thought before I ask for 25 USD.

I really wasn't planning on another Convoy order yet, not with an over 300 USD order expected to be delivered next week.

You're going to need a hand truck to roll that many Convoy lights into your house.
their value is incredible.

Picked up the large reflector M3-C w/ LHP73B emitter in 4000K , ramping style driver ===(double click 10Amps, double click and hold 20Amps!!!)
added a sliver 26800 extension for a couple bucks.

$35 total

And if you don't know how to solder or tinker, they're a great starting point. I purchased an S15 host to assemble myself and putting it together (several times because I had horrible luck with the driver taking damage when dropped and I kept having to replace it) was the most learning-intensive time I've spent with flashlights ever since I purchased my first LED light.

And on that point, it bears mention: Convoys do break, but when they do, they're super easy to source parts for and repair in-house.
