Only the RAM is a cost, everything else is Windows function* or simple free download.

I'll bet $20 that those things done will run Win 11

Thanks for the advise on making my computer compatable with 11. However, I don't have the confidence to attempt adding more RAM.

I'm running CCleaner Pro. I run it prior to shutting down, and after powering up. They presently have an option to run their new beta program, but even for stuff like this. I'm hesitant, cause I don't know what I'm doing sort'ah thing.

Once I'm able to figure out how to subscribe and install (ESU). As mentioned earlier, I'd be good to go for another year plus.

Would be great, if I had a neighbor like yourself. ... (y)
 
what do you use ya pc for az? if very simple task maybe a chomrebook will work or a cheap tablet if I recall target has a tablet for like 80 now its a amazon fire

Thanks. I have two Samsung Tablets. I pretty much use the laptop for simple tasks (MS Works), etc.. I like having a laptop with 14 to 16 inch screen (much easier on the eyes ... :)). With all of your suggestions / recommendations, I'll be good when I make my next pruchase. ... (y)

I'll make my purchase from Best Buy.
 
im not loyal to Best Buy but beats Walmart lol I hate Walmart so much my fav store was fry's but there gone now sadly omg it was my fav place so many computer parts so little time

It was a loss when Fry's closed it's doors. Not even thinking about (with this item) going with Amazon, or Walmart.

AZPops, I don't want you to feel uncomfortable in any way.
Adding RAM is easier than you think and they're lots of videos = watch a couple.
You just take out a few screws out of the back of your laptop, slide out the old RAM, slide in the new,, put the back on and put in screws.
there is a right and left side to RAM and the little notch lets you know

Really, its not unlike just popping in a cassette,,,:)

It'll run like you have a new computer

^On a parallel note, I'm looking to update the ram in my computer. It doesn't necessarily need it, but it's the weakest link in my set up at the moment.
I've been out of the loop for over a decade (maybe a bit longer) when it comes to computers. I've either garnered hand-me-downs or bought whatever would work on the cheap new.

But I have an OK system now that needs some memory. Which company makes good ram for gaming? OCable? I'm running intel core 9 that's using 800 series chipset.
Back in the day, Patriot was the go to. G-Skill was another good one. Are they still good? What others would you suggest?

100% on G.Skill

I'v been installing it for more than 20 years in my computers or family
Rock solid,, never had issue, finding overclock ect..
Two sides to RAM speed= megahertz & latency.....I go for lowest latency available (CL number)

Not a fanboy in anything, simply what has best performance or best value
in everything I own

add: just cross reference the specific RAM you're looking at w/ G.skill site, to make sure it's compatible with your motherboard/computer.
Intel & AMD are slightly different in 'addressing'

im weird I just hate upgrading older stuff isn't his cpu a 7th gen intel? seems to me. just buying any modern laptop will be better but a course im wrong a lot lol

Even somewhat older processors are faster than the motherboard bus speed and RAM,, the CPU does stuff really fast, then sits there waiting for the MB & RAM to catch up.

putting more/good quality RAM in a system buys years in its functionality
 
back to ram its crazy id imagine a modern ssd is faster then the ram my computer had when I joined cps

I inadvertently found this instructional page.. Although I followed the instructions, as mentioned in earlier post, it doesn't take me to the ESU link. Under the update; there is a window that states my computer doesn't meet the minimal requirement to run Windows 11,

I did check with the Prerequisites Page. Confirmed, the computor is running Windows 10, v22H2 Professional. I am the administrator, and all updates are installed.

Tried again, with no luck.

raggie,, look at what a M.2 drive can do

Gen4 PCIe, M.2 2280, Up to 7,300 MB/s -

7.3 gigabytes per second is VERY fast.. averaging only 4Watts

I've been checking out a few YouTube vids. Aside from the electrostatic part of the equation, it looks ........... OK it's me, so I'm not going there.

Do you think it's the RAM that's preventing the Windows 11 install?

If so, I'll stop by the Best Buy (what do you call their service guys) to inquire about the 16GB RAM upgrade (re. the cost and the window to do the instarll). If the cost is out of line. I'll go to plan B.

Trust me, you don't have to worry about the electrostatic scare crap, just put a towel down and take out the screws.
Anyway, don't know your whole system,, said I'd bet $20 new RAM and a system tune-up would do it,, I still feel that way.

Paying someone to install RAM and some software??
My take, put that cash into a new $500 laptop w/ current Windows,, like the Lenovo I mentioned

also: AMD processors are far more energy efficient than Intel,, sorry Intel fans
