Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

I went to see my daughter's band perform last night and danced a few numbers with my wife. Forgot all about the S&W Bodyguard 2.0 in my pocket until I got home.

My philosophy has always been:
Try to avoid, de-escalate or remove yourself from the situation.
If I have to pull my gun I intend to use it.
Drawing is a last resort, and it means somebody is going to get shot.

That’s a failure in training and mindset. I see this type of post on the internet quite frequently. The “if I’m drawing it, I’m firing it”

I have a background as a retired police officer and firearms trainer. Spent 10-15 days a month on the firing range for years. I have a lot of experience in the gun training arena.

When a cop draws, do we expect them to asses the situation and only fire when absolutely necessary? Yes. And the same applies to citizens carrying guns.

If you identify a deadly threat that requires you to unholser and draw, then do so. But to have your mind pre-trained that you WILL fire if you draw, you are setting yourself up for 25 to life. What may have been a threat 0.3 seconds ago and can turn and run as soon as they see you are armed. You gonna shoot a gun in the back that is running away? A threat can become a non threat in less than a blink of an eye. Plus, the cops would MUCH rather arrive on scene and be told that you drew a firearm on an armed robber and he ran away than to be told that you shot someone in self defense. Lots more paperwork when you shoot someone.

People know that brandishing is a crime and many don’t realize that pulling a gun in preparation for defending your life is NOT brandishing.

Optimal outcome. But what if they decide to "call your bluff" and rush you to take your gun?
You do not show them your gun, let them charge you. A good hit may be your last, so your choice.

If a civilian is "posturing up", then wouldn't drawing a firearm also be the same thing? Both are forms of pre-emptive brandishing, denoting intent...

This is the definition of brandishing...
"To wave or flourish (something, often a weapon) in a menacing, defiant, or excited way"

I've probably spent more time on the pistol range over the last 50 years and completed the enhanced concealed carry permit training covering the legal aspects of lethal force usage. Drawing my handgun means I've already assessed the situation and determined lethal force may be required. I've shot with many LEOs over the years (my brother & friends included) and I'm not generally impressed with LEO lethal force usage or firearms expertise and the frequent cases of running suspects shot in the back, and ill-aimed spray & pray mag dumps endangering neighborhoods are alarmingly frequent. If I decide I need to fire in self defense, paperwork is the least of my concerns.

Now im dealing with a racoon dude i thought wss rabid but he seems to smart. But thing first opened my lockable 10 gallon bucket .and i then moved it till my porch he was smart enough to push it till steps and push it down .i wish i had a weapon in case he did attack but he just looked at me walked closer to me tilll i yelled then he ran a bit. meant to post this a couple days ago.

This guy's a true marksman, most his videos are good to very good.
After watching this, if one doesn't want to get this firearm, somethin's wrong

spoiler line in vid: "had to have one myself"

I believe he's a well practiced marksman. Didn't watch.

Still don't see .380 filling the role of my primary. Absolutely nothing wrong, with that conclusion.

Discreet defense research tests a lot of .380 rounds. Including Underwood, etc. If you're interested.

A new bpdy guard 2.0 will be out today or soon its ported barrel etc etc but whoneeds posrted on a 380 lol

I don't own a .380
must say this Performance Center 3.1" ported barrel is on my short list,,,real short.
even looking at clearance ammo locally (cart before the horse)

ported barrel on .380, maybe unnecessary, but I like it
