Would really like a 3 mode M31. 3-40-210 lumen. Just like their MDC heads. I feel the LLL are kind of a waste being one mode. Might as well just keep it a 3 mode, that way you have the option to have 2 more brightness levels if you wanted than being stuck with 1. The lowest lumen on my M361 is 30 lumens. The LLL are 25. I’d rather see a LLLL at like 10-15 lumen, would make more sense

Or at this point just make the heads duel fuel and add programmability.

3-40-210 would be a very nice spacing. Make it throwier too, since it's easier to convert throw to flood than flood to throw.
 
Yeah. It would just be nice to have one drop in or head that can do it all.

Drives me insane having to carry or use multiple lights because of the battery configurations, voltages, and outputs.

Would like a drop in or head that has a moonlight and a high output while being able to run a common AA battery or a li-ion. It would solve a lot of BS. All the drop-in low levels are way too high to use in the middle of the night and early mornings. Not to mention going from 200 lumen to 500 lumen looks almost the same to the eye. 30 lumen can do the job of 200 lumen, while 200 lumen can do the job of 500 lumen. The mode spacing and voltages are not versatile at all

Most versatile output spacing is the 1-2v AA. Make that head also accept a li-ion that can boost the outputs and it would be a game changer. Would be great being able to throw that AA head onto a CR123 body and be able to run CR123, RCR123 USB rechargeables, or 16340 li-ions. Put that head on a AA body and you could run a AAA in an emergency, 1.5v AA, or 14500 li-ions.

I REALLY like the low single modes, because I can just configure a light and leave it near where I use it. I keep an M61NLL on my desk, for when I just need to see stuff that fell down, etc. And I have an M61WLL in another body for general "around the house use." I keep my M61NL in my 21700 body for a general purpose "long runtime" light.

While it does mean I've had to spend a lot more on different bodies, I kind of do prefer just building out a light configured for whatever task I want it for, and just leaving it nearby to the area I do that stuff.

I really, really like the MDC AA, and that's my go-to for "middle of the night" or general "I'm not sure what I'm going to be doing inside the house" stuff.

The upside of the L and LL variants is that you can still use the high/low ring, which can be extra nice.

I REALLY value the predictability of single mode lights, which is also why I love the high/low ring. I immediately know what I'm going to get when I turn it on. Most every other light I have, I have to actually think and remember, and usually cycle through modes before doing something. I like just grabbing a light, turning it on, and doing what I need to.

This is probably why I also love non-QTC Peak lights so much, too, haha.
 
The M31LL in a VME head is just about perfect as a simple utility light. Enough light for most tasks without being blinding, choice of batteries, reasonable runtime, and a dead simple user interface

It sounds like you want another light which might already exist, that malkoff hasn't developed yet, lol...

Correct! HDS Rotary is about the best I’ve found, but not cheap, lacks clip, and no single AA option. Zebralight is also a fantastic light.

However, I really enjoy Malkoffs lights even though they aren’t the best all-rounder unless you have multiples.

Just need that one and done Malkoff MDC. The CR123 3 mode comes close but I want that in 519a configuration

With the exception of high CRI and better runtimes...I hope that the end product of the Kosen interest list will show much better runtimes than what is currently on that chart, although Malkoffs do offer an unprecedented level of toughness.

***I'm also kind of picky, I want instant access to any one of the three modes from off.

Malkoff (on his site) offers the 2AA and 1CR123 in Neutral (4000K) 95 CRI

The M31 on a single AA just won't get you great runtimes. It's the compromise of flexiblity.

If you want better runtimes from a single AA, 2xAA works much better for most setups, because the voltage is much closer to 3V. The 2xAA head works up to just over 3V, so not quite Li-ion compatible, but you get much more performance and runtime at the expense of the length.

This reminds me...I think I need a 2xAA Malkoff, hahah.
 
I have an M31LLL 219B V3 50 Lumens earmarked for a VME 2AA (for Mrs JJZ109). Probably an MDC 2AA HCRI will eventually follow.

2xAA Malkoff feels great in hand. Gonna have to be placing another order soon
Putting these two posts together, I need an 2xAA Malkoff and another VME head.

Also, I REALLY hope Kosen does more M31 heads, especially since it seems like Illumn is a no-go, ever again :/
2xAA E-series M31 sounds awesome.
 
Owning several Malkoff 1AA and a 2AA, the 1AA has been my EDC for years. It's normal mode is in medium (8 Lumens) for nearly everything, a perfect amount of light for many tasks such as walking and not obnoxious for others. The biggest difference is the lowest mode which is either .3 L for 1AA and 3 for the 2AA. That .3 is pretty low and does get use.

The specs below for them in Neutral White (4000K) 95 CRI Luminous SST-20, which I prefer for a light that's not for seeing across a football field. I power everything with Energizer Lithium.

1AA 0.3/8/90 Lumens

2AA 3/40/210 Lumens

I prefer the specs for the 1AA but the 2AA is nice in the hand and feels lightweight for a Malkoff considering two batteries are in it.

Now since this is a wish list, it would be great to see some nice quality lens cap covers for the lights. Maybe even flip up. This would really help protect the light when dropped!
