Thanks Jay and John. I'm staying with 1C to charge / top off. The pack is getting slightly warm. I'm going to try a 2A discharge and see if the battery will cycle before hitting the charger timer limit.
Bob
Pleased to meet you Jay, thanks for the input. I think I understand the minimum voltage. My pack is 8 cells totaling 9.6 volts so I set my charger (Keenstone C1-XR) to a minimum discharge voltage of 8.7V but it also allows me to set the discharge current. 2C I think would be 3.2a for a 1600mah...
Great thread, so I get the 1C vs .5C charge but is there an optimum discharge amps? I understand different loads will drain the battery at different rates based on the current draw and I understand not to drain a cell below .9 of it's stated voltage but my charger lets me set discharge amps...
+1 for the TK75.
IMHO the TK75 is the big brother to the TK61, in cost, size and output so that comes down to your budget and how big a light you want to handle.
The plus for the TK41 is as others mention the convenience of AA battery size but on a Zodiac I doubt you're carrying alot of extra...
I have two and they charge fine with any cable I throw at them. You may have a got a bum one. Not sure how much they can QC for 10$ a light with those features.

Masters, your EDC choices would fit my needs fine as well but I love playing with the big boys. I would +1 the TK75vnKT as my favorite bigger light though it's output is totally overkill for anything I NEED :grin2:.

Re: I Need 18650 battery and charger reccomendation.
I'm not qualified to say what is the best but a protected 18650 based on a Panasonic cell is really good and well thought of and a nitecore D4 is a great charger

I admit I have been very fortunate to not have experienced extreme weather events but I still EDC a light that gets used 2-3 times a week. Not a big workout but still worth it to me. I like being prepared in case my good fortune changes. I suspect most of the people in Truckee had lights at...
My Mags have car duty with Malkoff upgrades. In a pinch they could be a personal defense device. I am a bit paranoid about the Alkalines leaking so check them every couple of weeks when I clean the car.
I like my Peak Eiger with the tail cap push button option, though it is a momentary on only. It's variable output depending on how hard you push the button. It's small enough for my suit pants pocket
