Just a quickie off the cuff review. I dont have a photo sharing account so no beam shots, sorry.
Overall, I like this light. The size, beam quality, flood width, brightness, and driverVN are all nice for an $88 light. I was needing a flooder that could also throw some and that's exactly what I got. Upon receiving the light I found the tint is a bit cool for my taste ( I usually prefer around 5000k so i went against Vinh'sadvice and ordered 5000k dome on) I was also hoping for more throw, even though it throws as well as my stock tk35 (I know, never happy lol). Vinh informed me after i got the light that aspherical lenses tend to make tints cooler so I guess I should have ordered the u3 dedome like he recommended. I got to thinking about that and realized that's probably the best option as you'll get more throw and not give up any flood. DOH! I'm definitely going to send it back to Vinh for the u3 dedome.
The switch is a little squeaky but functions perfectly.
Heat transfer path seems really good for an aspheric as it heats up quickly on turbo. Maybe not as qickly as my ZL H600II. I'm not a turbofreak with these small lights so it's not a big deal to me that I only get a few minutes on turbo. If I need that much light for a long period I'll go grab a light that's better suited for that like my k50vn or k40mvn.
Edit: I'll probably do a turbo runtime temperature test tomorrow if I remember.
I do notice the ceiling bounce lux reading drops from 126 to 60 when you go from flood to spot respectively, and I suspect that has to with the photons getting wasted on the black wall of the inside of the lens chamber before they get to the lens. I'm gonna guess most aspherical lights are like that unless the inside is mirror polished so the photons don't get absorbed and eventually bounce their way out. I might try this as an experiment as I do have polishing equipment.
For comparison, my ZL H600 mkII pulls 120 lux in the same ceiling bounce scenario so I'm guessing zrayVN is running about 1100 lumens OTF on turbo in full flood.
The clip is nice and stays put very well if you have it in the clip groove near the head. This is the way I prefer to carry this light anyway so it works out good for me. (I carry it in my back pocket lens up so the head of the light sticks out)
Did I mention I like the driverVN? Everybody has their own preferences but I found a couple mode groups I really dig.
I might add more to this post as I think of stuff.
